Things I don't like about iBrewMaster

I just discovered that the iPad version and iPhone version of iBrewmaster is two different apps, and had to pay twice for it. That is LAME LAME LAME . Most respectable iOS apps are universal across iPad and iPhone. You buy once and you get it on all of your devices.

    Terrible night

I once had a half gallon if Starsan get sucked into my carboy through the blowoff tube while cold crashing. Luckily, all of the sanitizer sat mostly frozen at the top of the wort. I racked from underneath it and it turned out to be one of the best beers I ever made.

Anyone try the BB "Hop Nog" yet?

I've already brewed and kicked a 5 gallon keg of Hopnog. It was good to drink after 2 weeks in the fermenter and 2 weeks carbing in the keg. I wish I could get more of those hops! Very fruity hop character, almost a watermelon note to them.

Brewer's Best with HBC 342 Hops

I agree with the Bells Two Hearted comparison. I've got a keg of it carbed up and it really seems like it is already at its prime. I'd totally make this my house IPA if I could get more of those hops.

    Strange Brew

I'm drinking a Hopnog I brewed about 6 weeks ago right now. I had the same problem with the hops, though I got about 4.5 gallons into the fermenter. Just pitch the whole package. You will be fine. BTW, the beer turned out really nice! Similar to a Bells 2 Hearted.

    Fairfax County, VA water

Any body on here brew in Fairfax County, VA? Do you use straight tap water to brew your beer?

Cold crashing and bottling - when?

I think you would get better results cold crashing in the bottle, because you are more likely to get an even distribution of your priming sugar and thus more evenly distributed carbonation. Cold crashing in the fermenter is really best for when you are kegging and force carbing.

Cold crashing and bottling - when?

Watch out when mixing priming sugar syrup into your cold, uncarbonated beer. The sugar tends to sink to the bottom of the bottling bucket when the beer is that cold. Probably the reason it seems to take more time to carb up after cold crashing. Most of the priming sugar probably ended up in the...

    Washington, DC visit

+1 on the Churchkey recommendation. If you don't go anywhere else to get beer in DC, GO THERE. They have a crazy variety of obscure awesome stuff that is usually amazing.

Brewer's Best with HBC 342 Hops

Anybody know anything about the Brewer's Best Hopnog 2011 kits? They just showed up at myLHBS today and was wondering if anybody had tried kits with 'experimental' hops before. There is no suggested hop schedule in the recipe (you are suppose to experiment!), so I was looking for some...

Priming sugar sank to the bottom of my bottling bucket

In the original post, I mentioned that I boiled the priming sugar in 2 cups of water and racked on top of that. I believe the consensus is that since I cold crashed the beer, the priming sugar sank to the bottom of the priming bucket. Next time I will let the beer come up to room temp before...

Priming sugar sank to the bottom of my bottling bucket

Doesn't warming up the beer defeat the purpose of cold crashing the first place?

Priming sugar sank to the bottom of my bottling bucket

I'm definitely going to stir better next time. Should I be worried about bottle bombs though? I'm pretty sure the last few bottles must have had a lot of sugar in them. 1.075 is REALLY high.

Priming sugar sank to the bottom of my bottling bucket

I am assuming because the SG of the bottom of the bottling bucket was 1.075 that almost none of the priming auger made into out of my bottles. I am afraid that the last few bottles got a big dose of sugar and will probably explode.

Priming sugar sank to the bottom of my bottling bucket

I just finished bottling my 5th batch of beer, the Saison recipe from Brewing Classic Styles. OG 1.064, FG 1.008. After cold crashing, I primed with 4.75 oz of corn sugar boiled in 2 cups of water. After filling all of my bottles, I poured a glass from the bottom of the bottling bucket and it...

First "Blown Away" Beer I've had in a while

I just had a keg of Legend Pilsner in my car on Tuesday.

    Flat Beer

I've had that same thing happen. The remedy was to get the room temperature above 70 degrees. Those few degrees made all the difference.
