    Ferris Brewer's Day Off

My buddies & I at work refer to it as "the something to do flu". Thankfully, I am able to take days off occasionally to do things I enjoy...brewing would be the main one.

    First BIAB

I've been brewing 5 gallon batches for 6 years, 5 years doing AG with round mash tun, 3 vessels total. I was at a point where I wanted to move up to 10 gallons but I needed to do an upgrade on my mash tun to a larger cooler. I have been running this through my mind for months when it occurred to...

There's a fly in my fermenter!!

I brew outside so it's always on my mind having to deal with the fly's. A few brews ago, I was doing the final chilling before adding yeast, I looked down & there was a fly that just landed in the wort. I quickly got my spoon, sprayed some StarSan on it & got him out. Fortunately, all came out...

    Who has a house beer

I guess you could call mine my house beer. I have brewed many different styles through the years but in the past few years I have only been drinking & brewing IPA's. I have a grain bill that I use every time, as long as I have all the ingredients - two row, munich or vienna, & a little crystal...

First Time Recipes - What Was everyone's first time?

My first brew was a fuggle ale kit from Midwest Supply. Ordered it the same time I ordered my brewing kit. I was so excited for it to finish & taste it. I honestly thought it was the best thing I ever tasted. Drank it all in about a week or two...just couldn't leave it alone.

What was the best beer you ever brewed?

I think I'll drink a cold one when I get home.

Confession time: would you buy the beer(s) you have brewed in a bar?

Without a doubt, I would absolutely buy some of the beers I have brewed. IMO, some of my beers are the best beers I have tasted. I brew mainly for my enjoyment & if friends/family enjoy it too, all the better. I don't brew for competitions so I'm not very objective in my assessment but again, I...

Suggestions for a light Color summer beer

I just brewed a Maris Otter/Chinook SMASH this past Saturday & by far, the lightest color I have ever brewed. Looking forward to trying this out in a week or so.

    Best SMaSH recipe you've made???

I did a Maris Otter/Chinook/US-05 smash this past Saturday. 12lbs MO, .5 oz hop for 60 minutes, 2 oz hops for a 30 steep & will dry hop 2 oz next week. Was very light in color but smelled good. Looking forward to this, as I have been wanting to try a simple recipe. My regular beers are all...

Did that last year with a Dubbell. Note to self - never hurry to keg before going out of town.

    HBT Musicians

Guitar, mandolin, bass (electric & upright), steel guitar, square-neck resophonic, sing. I like to play my mandolin when I brew, fiddle tunes mostly - specifically an old song called Liberty. Still play gigs frequently but my better days are behind me as I would rather be at home & I don't like...

I don't always use a hop bag when I brew but when I do, I squeeze the hops out of it! Stay hoppy, my friends!!! :D

Post your favorite funny or snarky sayings here

Busier than a one-armed paper hanger. Educated beyond his intelligence. And from a very nice but the most educated man I ever met, who always had a plug of snuff in his lower lip....it's a cryin & a shame. RIP Willie!

    Epic failure

I had just ordered & received a Cereal Killer Grain Mill from Adventures in Homebrewing so I brewed up a new batch yesterday & will also brew this weekend. Which reminds me of more good news. I ordered the grain mill last Monday & it was at my house on Weds. with free shipping. Can't ask for...
