    Violently active fermentation

In this case the blow off tube still was ineffective. I removed the airlock this morning and put on a blow off tube and it still popped the top with the build up of foam

    Violently active fermentation

So I've been brewing off and on for a few years. A batch here and there basically. Yesterday I brewed a batch of Irish Stout. I got an extract kit from northern brewer. I had an extra 6lbs of LME kicking around and wanted to bump up the ABV a little. The kit estimated OG 1.042 so I added...

    Pasteurization knowledge check

I see where I went wrong. I thought that since it was just sitting on a shelf the extra oxygen in the neck of the bottle could cause issues

    Pasteurization knowledge check

Okay so from what I have read on here.... 1. If you go straight from fermentation chamber to keg (refrigerated) and you like it a little dry, you don't need to pasteurize. 2. If you go from fermentation to keg (refrigerated) and add some juice to sweeten you don't need to pasteurize. 3. If...

What's more common in cider making?

I like the idea of fermenting apple cider with nothing but sugar or honey added and then back sweeten or add other fruit juices to taste. How often do you mix some juice with other juices before fermentation? Does the other juice change flavor during fermentation?

    Quick question about yeast nutrients......

So my OG was 1.09 and now it's at 1.02 and no signs of going further. I just used a basic ale yeast. What additive do I need to make sure all the yeast is gone so I can put it in bottles?

    Quick question about yeast nutrients......

    Quick question about yeast nutrients......

So I am doing my second cider. 2 gallons of honey crisp from trader joes. I added some sugar and mixed it in really well. Pitched my yeast and the next day things were happily bubbling. It's been bubbling for about 10 days or so. I get a bubble about every minute so I get the idea that I...

    Fast fermentation

I'm going to pull a sample today and check. My og was 1.31 (first all grain) so well see. I've only got 50 gallons of brewing under my belt so I'm still a noob

    Fast fermentation

So I'm doing a gallon batch for fun, I used a half a packet of yeast. So theoretically 2.5 times what's required. The fermentation kicked off very quickly and then died off the next day. It's been 3 days. Do you think the fermentation is done? The recipe said ferment for 2 weeks. I...

Beer Trade Dilemma...What Would You Do?

I would wait until his next vintage and if he does not deliver then you can drag his name though the mud. Just save all your emails or pm's so you have proof at a later date. But at the same time it is just one bottle of beer. Why would you trade 2 of yours for 1 of his?

Rogue Brutal IPA kit possible issue?

I did a full boil but added a half a gallon at the end. but a half gallon would not cause the .02 gravity that i am missing. I guess time will tell

Rogue Brutal IPA kit possible issue?

So waaaaaaaaay back in Dec. of last year I purchased this kit from my LHBS and unfortunately was not able to brew it until recently. I know waiting 9 months is bad. But everything was sealed and stored properly (wyeast packet stored in fridge, hops in vacuum packs in freezer and grains and...

AB jumping on the IPA bandwagon it seems

The problem with them doing an IPA is in some states they have a ABV% restriction. It utah here it is no higher than 3.2% sold in grocery stores or gas stations. If you want higher you have to purchase through state liquor stores. And i dont know about you but any low % IPA just does not...
