Blichmann 15 gal boilcoil and RIMS Rocket add on questions

Great, well maybe I'll continue to rule my fantasy football league and take the $1700 pot at the end and I'll just buy a tower of power for the ease.

Blichmann 15 gal boilcoil and RIMS Rocket add on questions

And as far as a controller goes for both of these devices. Is it required? Can I build something that'll work with the temperature control without having to buy blichmanns $500+ tower of power.

Blichmann 15 gal boilcoil and RIMS Rocket add on questions

I'm thinking about getting the 15 gallon boil coil and the RIMS Rocket add on from blichmann. Here are the links to both on MoreBeer. http://morebeer.com/products/blichmann-boilcoil-15-gal-240.html http://morebeer.com/products/blichmann-rims-rocket-addon.html My only concern is the...

    First lager-Oktoberfest question

Thanks. Yeah it's really low, didn't want it to happen but at least it won't be under attenuated at bottling and start exploding. I don't mind a drier beer but I was just worried about the body which seems to be ok. I also had about 2 extra gallons of the same recipe with another yeast (bohemian...

    First lager-Oktoberfest question

So I put this beer in the secondary last night and started lagering. It did end up attenuating pretty low, down to 1.003-1.004. The hydrometer sample doesn't seem to be light bodied or anything like that so thats a good thing. Now I'll let it lager for about 4 weeks. Just a couple other...

    First lager-Oktoberfest question

Alright. Thanks again for all the help and wish me luck. I'm starting to see all of the Oktoberfest's come out and I'm getting excited for mine to be done.

    First lager-Oktoberfest question

What about if it drops a couple more points when I take it out? Like I said the fermentability test went down to 1.003. If it does go down lower should I then wait a day or so AFTER it reaches terminal. I would hope that it doesn't go down any lower. I could handle a drier Oktoberfest but I...

    First lager-Oktoberfest question

Thanks for all the valuable info guys. I think I'll go ahead and start lowering it slowly to lager temps here after one more day or so. Do you think that I should put it in the secondary before I do this and carry some of the yeast over with it? Not alot, just a little bit to do some clean up...

    First lager-Oktoberfest question

And just in case this comes up...I pitched a very healthy large starter of Wyeast Oktoberfest Lager Blend. Definitely no worries of underpitching.

    First lager-Oktoberfest question

I've been brewing for about 3 years but since purchasing my fermentation fridge a couple months ago I've just now gotten around to doing my first lager, an Oktoberfest. I brewed it on August 16th, about 11 days ago. Kept the temperature at 50-52* for the first couple days and then let it...

    My hop growing situation

Thanks for the help guys. I'll just leave it in the pot for the rest of the warm season and then put it in a bed sometime next year. I could probably get away with something thats about 2'-3' high and 3' long. I'll put the crown in the bed along with some fresh rhizomes. Already can't wait for...

    My hop growing situation

Heres a picture. Looks pretty pathetic. And as I was out there I checked out the potential of putting something on the ground level and I think it could actually work. Too bad I have to wait until the long winter is over before I get to try again. I'm thinking of sprouting it inside early under...

    My hop growing situation

I intended to let it finish out this year in the pot. I am very limited as to growing here though. I live in an apartment in the chicago city area. I live on the second floor and have considered next year building something for it on the ground level and putting the twine up to the balcony. This...

    My hop growing situation

So this year I tried out growing some hops. Now a few months after planting I've read a lot more about it and realized how much I did wrong. First, I planted only a single rhizome, Columbus. Heard its better to do at least 3-4 in one area. I also planted this single rhizome vertical instead...

Guessing hop amounts (please help, im heating my strike water as I type this)

So the gravity after the mash was looking a bit higher than i wanted so i topped the kettle off with some water to bring it down to around 1.060. Because of the extra water I think that I will be able to get 2 1 gallon batches out of it. I FWHed with 1oz Chinook and 1oz Citra. Then 1oz...

Guessing hop amounts (please help, im heating my strike water as I type this)

I was initially going to brew a barley wine today but due to the fact that it is impossible to find an oxygen tank in Chicago I've decided to use my grains to do 2 different batches instead. Plus I lost my DME and had to make a starter from grain, which didn't go to well. So my question is: if I...

    Hopping my Barleywine

I'm about to brew my first barley wine here in about a week (hopefully) when the hops get delivered. I recently ordered 3 lbs of leaf hops from hopsdirect.com and would like to use these for the brew. I got: 1lb Citra, 1lb East Kent Goldings, and 1lb Nugget. Anyone have any idea as to how I...

    Bittering without hops?

I used dandelion root in a little 1 gallon 2nd runnings batch that I did not to long ago. It definitely bittered really well. Almost too much because now the beer just tastes like dandelions. So use liberally. I got it in the bulk section at whole foods. Hope this helps.

    First runnings barley wine.

Yeah! I was thinking of doing this for a barley wine and RIS. But for the RIS I was thinking a nice porter for the second runnings, if it stays that dark. And Revvy, I read through your brew day and I remember seeing in there that you waited until around the end of the first boil to drain the...

    First runnings barley wine.

I've been wanting to brew a barley wine for a while. Like most, I don't want to have a large carboy taken up for the length of time that one would need. So I'm alright with just doing a one gallon batch. With my mash tun set up it would just be pointless to do that small of a mash. I have a...
