    Wiring GE 7.0 cu freezer

Hi everyone. I have a GE 7 cf chest freezer that I am keezer-izing. Ive read a lot of threads on how to wire the STC-1000 into the harness, but has anyone had any success wiring the stock sensor into the STC 1000 as well? thanks!

    Cider fermentation, infection?

This is the first batch of cider made from our own backyard apples, so I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I've seen cider ferment before and it didn't look like this... Infection? Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    ferm wrap temp range

Whats the highest temp youve gotten from a ferm wrap? Im trying to figure out if I can use it to successfully reach a 90 degree fermentation with a saison yeast (65-72 degree ambient). anyone have any experience with this?

    pasteurization

Im making a cider with apple juice and DME (inspired by apfelwein) and im wondering what temp I should use to pasteurize (and dissolve) DME in some of the juice. Ive read that boiling apple juice will cause a pectin haze; Id like to avoid this if possible. thanks

    montrachet krausen

Hey all. Im experimenting with adding body to apfelwein (which I know makes it not apfelwein). id like a slightly sweeter product with more body and will be making my next batch with 2lbs of extra light DME in place of the dextrose. will I have to worry about krausen now, or is krausen...

why do all my beers taste like saison

well not ALL of them, but the last few batches have all tasted very saison-y. all the batches in question have been light ales, PA or IPA. Each and every one has tasted like what they were supposed to, prior to bottling, and all have the same off flavor after bottling and a few weeks of...

Houston, we may have a problem.

I want to try bottling from a corny keg because I feel it would just be easier to push beer from the keg than to use a siphon. To clarify, I am not bottling carbonated beer, but rather adding priming sugar and using the keg as a glorified bottling bucket. That was the plan today.... however....i...

    drip irrigation conundrum

I recently applied a drip irrigation system to my holdings hop plant. the system is simple. pressure reducer to micro line, spilt into 4 1GPM emitters. My hop plant is in a large planter... maybe 15-20 gallons. after 30 min of watering, the surface is still bone dry while water is...

    substitute for briess midnight wheat

I'm working on a recipe inspired by Firestone walker's Wookey Jack. They use both debittered black malt and this midnight wheat malt. Ive never used midnight wheat, but based on briess' fact sheet, where they suggest it as a sub for debittered black malt, it seems the two are more or less...

    "cask" kegging at cellar temps

I'm struggling to get this figured out...I think it's more complicated than I originally thought. I want to serve kegged beer in my 55 degree garage. I have a picnic tap and about 7 ft of beer line. I've kegged and carbed at room temp before, but I always chilled. I figured this would be the...

    2 beers, which yeast

I'm currently scheming for my next brewday. I'd like to make an ESB and try my hand at a deschutes obsidian stout clone. First off, can I do this with one yeast? Second, would wyeast 1098 work? lastly, I'm thinking ESB first--right? ESB recipe calls for S04 and deschutes uses "English ale"...

    Confused 1st year goldings

I'm a novice hop cultivator with A first year EKG plant. I've been watching and waiting for the right time to cut them back for winter, and a few questions have come up. First, here's what they look like. Yellow but not entirely shriveled yet. Is it time to cut, or should I wait until the...

    volumes for saison

    sanke hand pumps

As the subject header suggests, I have 2 sanke hand pumps for sale. They are used. I got them from a friend along w some other kegging stuff. I've cleaned them once but they could probably be cleaned again. They have all parts but no hose or picnic tap (too gross to salvage). Haven't...

    carafa special I/II/III

Im trying to figure out these specialty malts. when is it appropriate to use these-- are they a substitute for equivalent level roasted barley (ie carafa special 2 for 300L roasted barley; carafa special 3 for 500L roasted barley)? Or, do they have a different purpose? LHBS guy says the...

    Belgian stout

I'd like to do a Belgian stout... Something along the lines of buffalo belgian stout. I'm wondering if people have had more success with a simple stout recipe using Belgian yeast, or if I should look at adding some " Belgian" components to the grain bill. Thoughts and suggestions would be great.

    Burned hop leaves

Can someone help me identify what's going on with my first year goldings' leaves. They haven't been wet but it has been really hot. Is it my watering schedule? Thanks

when does a recipe need flaked...

Some recipes have flaked barley/wheat/dextrine/etc. to increase head, and some dont... I havent noticed a pattern (ie. all stouts, or all beers with low IBUs, etc.) Heres my question: Is there a rule of thumb for when you need to think about adding something to increase head retention?.. or do...

    Sunburned leaves?

Man, for someone who normally has good luck w plants...I'm having trouble with this "weed." What are these brown spots on my leaves? It's gotten quite a bit warmer and sunnier and the spots werent there yesterday.

    White hop leaves

Hard too see in picture but the first few pairs of leaves on my first year EKG has white stuff in all the grooves...won't wipe off. What is this?
