    g-love's e-herms brew rig build

I started this with a bunch of questions in another thread because I was originally going to build a propane rig, but decided it'd be nice to use electric. I decided this for two main reasons: 1. I wasn't comfortable using propane inside (personal choice) and 2. I really like the idea of how...

    Fringe benefits of your job

I spend a lot (too much) of my free time on HBT, and I enjoy reading about what people are into outside of brewing. Some of you guys and gals have pretty cool jobs. There are people that have access to really cool equipment or even coworkers with expertise in interesting fields. So, I...

    My 3 yr. old

This is a first for me. Technically he's 2, but turns 3 on the 27th. So..... We're sitting at the dinner table eating together and he says, "Papá, want beer?" And I said "you want beer?" He said, "no, you want drink beer? Me bring you you one." I said, "ok, sure, I'll have a beer." He goes...

    BG-12 (1) & BG-14 (2) for sale

I have one bg-12 and two bg-14 burners for sale. I live in western MD area and I prefer not to ship. I will however meet someone halfway that lives in the area. They are brand new. I decided to go electric rather than propane. Prices: this is basically what I paid, minus a couple bucks. Bg-12...

    scotch suggestions

I am thinking I'd like to diversify my experiences with liquor. I drink mostly beer, and occasionally some crown. I want to try some scotch, but have no clue where to start. Anyone want to suggest a quality, affordable scotch to start out with?

    jolly pumpkin

I'm in Michigan for the next two days and it just occurred to me that i'm in jolly pumpkin territory. Anyone know where the best place to get bottles is? Their website doesn't really tell me, and they seem to have multiple locations. Any help is appreciated.

    Mead Glassware

I've never had mead before, but I'm cracking a bottle of B. Nektar Vanilla Cinnamon with the old lady and I just realized that I don't know what to drink it from.... What's the "correct" glassware for this?

    Was gonna go propane, but...

the more I read, the more I think electric might be a better set up. $h!t.... My plan was to build a single tier, two pump, propane set-up with keggles. I was going to go pretty low tech with very little, if any type of automation. However, the more I read and think about what I want...

    Where to sell guns

This might seem like a dumb question, but after my dad passed away he left me his guns. There are a few rifles and shotguns. I know how to shoot them, and I plan on keeping one or two but I don't need to hang on to all of them. My question is, where do people sell preowned guns? And how would...

Houston beer bars - cinco ranch/Katy area

I'm in Houston for tonight and tomorrow night only. Are there any good beer bars/taphouses close to Cinco ranch or Katy area? That's where i'm staying and it'd be easier to go someplace close by. Thanks for any suggestions you can make.

    Proud dad

My 1.5 year old just said beer for the first time. So proud! :-) He just recently started repeating things we say, so I was super shocked. I was looking at a NB catalog and he walked over to see what it was. I asked him if he could say beer and without hesitation he said it clear as day! Prett...

    Can't decide: BG12 or BG14 burners

Good Morning..... I have decided to tackle a single tier/3 burner stand, but I am really struggling with the choice of burners...... I have read and in some cases re-read tons of posts about burners and I am just not sure what to do. I will be using keggles and doing mostly 5 gallon...

    MD to SD - Driving

I'm going to be driving from Maryland to South Dakota next month (unfortunately not only looking for good beer, but going to a wedding) and I am looking for brewery/ brewpub suggestions along my route. I know there is a lot of ground to cover here, but I'm seeing the major through points as...

Forgot to add late hop addition

Got distracted while I was brewing an extract batch of NB's Extra Pale Ale today and forgot my 1 minute addition of cascade at the end. The recipe called for 2oz of cascade for 60 min, which it got and 1oz for 1 min, which I forgot. What do you guys think, leave it like it is or dry hop the 1oz...

    My well water report

I know that some of you guys get sick of seeing these water report threads, but I am hoping someone will check mine out and tell me what they think. I have been reading about how all the different parts of water work by themselves, but I also understand that the overall water profile is what it...

My first AG! An impromptu BIAB....

I decided after my last extract batch that I wanted to step into all grain. I bought most of the stuff to make my cooler MLT and the grain to make Orfy's Mild last weekend. Well.......... I work full time, I go to grad school, and I have a 1 yr old son so free time is at a minimum. I...

First Brew... Not digging the aftertaste

So.... My first brew was a Nut Brown Ale from NB. I have to say I really enjoyed the taste at bottling and then it was even better a week later with some carbonation. I was super excited... Now, 3 weeks later, my beer has a bitey taste, and a harsh aftertaste... It isn't getting better...
