Hops for a Balcones Bourbon Barrel Coffee Pale

I went into a local coffee roaster and was immediately intrigued by the Balcones Bourbon barrel sitting on the counter. Turns out the owner puts green Sumatra beans in the barrel and ages them for 2-3 months before roasting. We started chatting, told him I was a homebrewer, and long story short...

Help me brew a phenomenal sour to celebrate my sour loving buddy's wedding!

This is me (the ugly one [emoji12]), my buddy Michael, and his lovely wife Mary at Crooked Stave in Denver. I just met Mary today and found out they already eloped to the courthouse! Mary is a wonderful and beautiful person and I'm thrilled he found a great friend and partner, he deserves it...

    STC-1000 questions. Be gentle =]

I finally wired up the STC I had lying around with the idea that I could control the 1000w heatstick I have to pre heat strike water or hold temps for a kettle sour. I used a fused power receptacle (like for a computer cord) with an LED rocker switch. Took a bit to track down the fuse (I picked...

    Head retention issue

I brewed a saison, recipe below, and split the 12 gallon batch 3 ways. 1 fermented with WLP644 Saccharomyces Bruxellensis Trois, one with WLP590 French Saison, and one with US-05 as a clean control to get a better idea of what flavors are yeast derived and what is coming from the grist and hops...

Is there a White Labs equivalent to WY 3822 Belgian Dark or WY 1581 Belgian Stout?

If the Googles are remotely accurate, 3822 comes from Brouwerij Van Honsebrouck and 1581 from Brasserie Ellezelloise--both are Private Collection strains. My LHBS only carries White Labs and my club bank doesn't have either Wyeast strain. So, wondering if anyone knows of the same strains from...

Need help with an Iron Brew recipe using cacao nibs, midnight wheat, and American hops!!!

So my new homebrew club is having an Iron Brew competition. I know, most of the time you have to come up with something on the spot and brew on the fly. We get a little time to work on it! I have some ideas, but I'd love to hear from the homebrewtalk crowd[emoji12] So here's what I have to work...

Bookcliff Brew Club in Grand Junction, CO Rocks!

I've been brewing for 8 years, never had a LHBS or a homebrew club anywhere near me. I just moved to Grand Junction, went into Lil Ole Winemaker and got a warm welcome from Scott and his lovely wife, who runs a flower shop out of the same location. They both told me I needed to connect with the...

Colorado 20 gal kettle $100 and SQ14 burner $30 for sale

I switched to electric induction so I no longer need my 80 quart (20 gallon) aluminum Bayou Classics kettle w/ basket, weldless ball valve, and thermometer. It also has a reflectix jacket (lil burned on the back, yet another reason I'm moving to electric 😁). I etched volume markings on...

Has anyone run a 240v induction cooktop on a generator?

I got a helluva deal on a 240v cooktop that I couldn't pass up despite not having the appropriate 240v capacity at this time. I'd like to at least test the damn thing out, and ideally brew a batch or two. I know I can build an adapter to my dryer but I've also got a generator that puts out 240...

Help w/ eBIAB setup...what to buy?

Hello All, I have been brewing for about 8 years, AG almost the entire time. I switched to BIAB a couple of years ago and love it. I have a pretty jacked up back so minimizing lifting is a priority. I would also like the capacity to brew indoors. The Robobrew is pretty appealing for a turnkey...

Feedback on pH meter: apera instruments ai209 ph20

Does anybody have any experience with this meter? I have gone through a couple of cheapies and they are useless. Slow fermentation w/ Wyeast 3724 Belgian Saison

About 3 weeks ago I brewed a Saison. AG, nailed all my temps and numbers, SG of 1062. I made a 1800 ml starter for some old (6/29/11) Wyeast 3724 and got decent growth. Pitched and had great krausen and activity within 8 hours. So, little lag time and visible activity. I started at 65°F and...
