    Duda Diesel = Fast

I ordered my plate chiller from Duda Diesel on Saturday. The same day I ordered some stuff from Amazon. With Duda Diesel, I paid standard shipping and Amazon, I did 2nd day delivery with Prime. My plate chiller arrived earlier this afternoon and I'm still waiting on my shipment from Amazon...

Putting together a "Mad Scientist" lab kit for my nephew.

My nephew just turned 8 years old and tomorrow he goes into surgery for the 6th time this year. In the last 12 months he's had over a dozen surgeries. For the past 3 years, he's had to take all his feedings from a feeding tube (J tube, I think it's called) that was surgically installed from...

    UC Irvine Engineering Training Videos

I was looking around on Youtube today for video instructions on how to weld. I came across this great set of resources from UC Irvine. I figure that since there's many out there like me who want to learn to weld so we can build our own brew stands, etc., I'd share my find.

    Pr0n mode..

I was just thinking the forums needs a Pr0n mode. That way when we are looking at all the beer/brewing/pub build porn that's been posted, we can see just the images. More instant gratification that way ;) Just a thought.

    Alabama gas station

While on a business trip, I stopped for gas somewhere between Montgomery and Auburn Alabama. They didn't support pay at the pump, so I went inside to pay for my gas. Once inside, I saw this: Has anyone seen more taps inside a gas station than this? I count 31 taps. I have to admit...

Advice on possible kegorator purchase - Would you buy it?

A coworker of mine is selling an older commercial Perlick kegorator. He says it will hold 2 full sized kegs plus a 5 gal. keg. It has 3 taps already. It needs a little bit of clean up, some rust removal and the lines need cleaned or replaced. He's asking $300 for it. Is this a good price...

    bulk aging head space question

I know that bulk aging, you want as little head space as possible to prevent oxidization. Sometimes it doesn't always work out that you can easily do this. My question is, can I just purge any oxygen out of the carboy using my CO2 tank and be ok, even if the carboy is only half full?

    Like a mushroom

I read all over that when fermenting you need to keep the fermenters somewhere dark. My question is, just how dark? Does fermentation require total absence of light to prevent oxidization, or will keeping it out of direct sunlight do the same? I don't have room in any closets and the only...

Yeast included with Muntons Bock Brew

About 3 years ago I purchased a Muntons Connoisseurs Range Bock Beer kit. I just got around to doing anything with it tonight. Included with the kit is a packet of dried yeast. After so long, will it be any good? Would anyone have any idea what kind of yeast it is? I have a starter of...

    Ferment questions - mead w/ WLP099

I have 15 gallons of mead going right now, I started it about 10 days ago. I'm using WLP099 Super High Gravity yeast. As per the instructions in order to gain the higher alcohol content, I've been gradually feeding honey to the mix to bring the gravity up. Because of this, I'm unsure what...

    Pressure Cookers for home autoclave

I'm putting together my home culture lab and I'm about to get a pressure cooker. I know I need one that will reach 15 PSI, but aside from that, I don't know anything about pressure cookers. I'm looking at a couple models on Amazon.com and would like some feedback if anyone is willing to...
