    Abita brewery

I've been. It has more of a commercial brewery "feel" to it than some micros I've visited, but all-you-can-drink for an hour or so is nice. I'm a fan of their seasonals. Satsuma is fantasic, and their Strawberry Harvest Lager is amazing (but likely not on tap anymore).

    New brewery in Texas!

I keep a spare 5 gallon corny that I fill with ~10lbs of ice to pre-chill my immersion chiller. Works great, cheap solution.

    Brewing down south

I don't do anything differently, except wait longer for my immersion chiller to work as tap temps are higher.

    Hello from Houston

They do, indeed, have great prices on equipment. Bought a 15gal kettle there a while back, great deal. I recommend them.

Terribly underrated bands that never got their dues

I've been saying for years that Flotsam and Jetsam were horribly underrated.

    brewing confession

I don't make water adjustments. I don't make yeast starters. I take gravity readings, but only OG and FG. I don't care about brewhouse efficiency. I think temperature control is overrated. I long primary. I don't brew to style, because if everyone did we'd only have one style of beer. I...

AB-InBev fights to prevent HB602 from becoming law

...which is against the law in Texas. Hence HB602.

Making progressively more mistakes with each batch...

I think you're confused on the meaning of user-serviceable. They would have the exact same chance of being damaged if subjected to liquid, but being non-user-serviceable, there's nothing you can do to fix it. At least with a laptop you can pull it apart and let it dry... For what it's worth...

    $65 an hour? WTF?

When i gave notice at my last employer, i told them I would be happy to come back and fix any issue the encountered until they could hire my replacement. For $150 a hour. I 1099'd 15 hours with them before they stopped calling me.

Got my (houston) water report... a little help

Spring isn't part of the City of Houston water system as far as I can see from the city's published documents. I was under the impression that Spring had its own MUD. http://documents.publicworks.houstontx.gov/documents/divisions/utilities/water_quality_report_2008.pdf Of course, I...
