I puree'd my grapes, now what?

So my mom dumped about 5 gallons of (edit: concord) grapes on my door this weekend to make wine with. So I destemmed and washed them and then used my hand mixer to puree those babies. Now I have what amounts to a sludge, do I need to add more water? Lots of water? Sugar? I also had about a...

    Northernbrewer!

I was tempted to keep this to myself but nah, here goes! I ordered my next few brew kits from NB last week. In the "order comments" I put something like "I sure wish I had more Northernbrewer glasses in my collection, hint, hint" So I got my order in yesterday and they'd put 2 of their...

    Holy crap, SNAKES!

So back in like 2002 or 2003 I bought a couple snakes. An albino female and a het for albino (means he carries the gene but doesn't display it and looks normal) male boa for the cool sum of $1000 delivered from a breeder in Chicago. They ate and grew: Sometime last year, late...

    Quick Question: Dry Hopping method?

So I have a black ipa that's ready for the dry hopping portion, do I just pitch the hops in there? Do I boil them a few minutes for sanitation purposes then toss them in? I'm going to transfer to a secondary fermenter and add the hops and bottle Friday or Saturday.

First AG LOTS of Trub normal?

So I did my first AG this weekend and I use bottling buckets as primary and went to let a sample out last night and it was downright sludgy so I'm guessing AG has loads more trub/sediment/goop on the bottom as a DME/LME kit will have, correct? Or did I perhaps do something wrong? Like when...

So I had a few pints of brew and an idea (DIY Grain Mill)

Has anyone ever modified a paper shredder into a grain mill? I did a search for "paper shredder" and got no hits. Am I to believe I had a new idea no one else has had? I was just looking at my shredder, and it looks like if you turned it upside down and hit the reverse button you'd be...

Gonna try an AG tomorrow, I hope.

Oh tested my water today, my Ph is lowish in the 6.0-6.5 range out of my drinking filter, and my hardness (both measurements) are pretty damned hard. This is an imperial stout, is it going to like the hardness and Ph or should I consider running to Lowe's for 5 gallons of bottled water to use...

    Good deal? GFCI SPA Box

I just got home with one of these: On clearance for $34.99 at Home Depot. Deal or no deal? Got the stuff I need to convert my 10 gallon SS pot into a self contained kettle so I can cook in the basement or outside (my dryer plug is right by the window in the basement). I suppose I could...

BIG Beer, should I take some extra steps?

So I made a 2 can 5 gallon batch of Munton's Bock, and guess I sorta misjudged my addons. Ended up with a SG of 1.110! I hydrated and started a packet of Nottingham and one of the packs that came with the Bock and it was nice and foamy and looking good. It's in the basement where the...

    Careful with the Capper!

Don't go all He-Man on the bottle capper! Yeah guess I gave it a little too much oomph!

So I asked my son to help me think of a name

Now that I'm finally getting into this whole homebrew thing, there's just something wrong drinking beer out of a plain brown bottle. So I asked my kid for some ideas and we came up with Bowser Brau and he was like Bowser could be holding a beer. Now my first bottling I just whipped up a...

Was I supposed to use a hops bag?

So I brewed a Northern Brewer American Wheat Kit this past Sunday http://www.northernbrewer.com/brewing/american-wheat-beer-extract-kit-2.html And I pretty much tried to follow the instructions step by step and it never mentioned taking out the hops after the boil? I just let out a...

So I bottled on the 16th and cracked one open tonight!

Relax, not to drink (though I did take a drink, it's still obviously young) but for this: Kroger had whole ribeyes for $4.99 (what happened to $2.99 dang!) so I had my wife grab a 19 pounder and had her have them slice it up but also to leave me one nice 4 pounder to smoke in my UDS...

Normal? Bottled 2 days ago, already fizzy?

I bottled Saturday after 17 days in the fermenter. SG was stable. Used the recommended amount of bottling sugar. So I opened one today to use in a marinade and that thing was fizzy! It flowed over the top of the bottle when I popped the cap. Is this normal? Also I felt my PET bottles...

Is this a craigslist score or a dud?

This is the text, see attached image, should I check it out or is this way too much for $350 (it's local of course to me)?

    Where to ferment?

My basement stays about 63-64, my kitchen about 66-68 and my computer room 74-76, I'm reading up and it looks like my basement should be the perfect place to ferment right? I plan to start with a Mr Beer to get my feet wet and then as time and energy and ambition allow upgrade to something...

Just joined - from North Alabama

Apparently one of the forums favorite vendors is about 7.7 from where I'm sitting (at work) kegkits.com :) I actually came here from a google search for kegkits.com since I'm looking to do some homebrewing and a maps.google.com search for "home brewing" yields kegkits is local and 3 negative...
