I really don't think CaCL is the issue. What is the source of your brewing water? If that came out the hose then I think that's your problem. If the hose water is just for cleaning then I think it's less likely but who knows. Could just be phenols from a wild yeast infection.

yeah, I recirculate with a pump the entire time. I don't get any scorching currently but my false bottom is pretty tall and covers the entire bottom of the pot.

seems like there might be a risk of scorching the grain when I fire the burner with that type of false bottom.

Stout looks interesting but no sight glass and I wonder how the false bottom compares with blichmann. Stout is also unusually tall :confused:

I'm currently mashing in a 15 gallon morebeer pot with a false bottom and it's a bit small. 20 gallons is really what I need. I recirculate during the mash and direct fire to maintain temps. my needs... 20 gallons stainless false bottom 1/2" drain valve thermometer some sort of sight...

I also have a concord pot. I added a weldless thermometer and drain valve. Excellent pot for the money!

I'm a little late to the party here so excuse me for that but... I also ferment in sanke kegs and I clean them with a sump pump in a bucket. PBW solution at 180F for 30 minutes and it's done! Rinse with hot water. Easy! I got my sump pump from Harbour Freight for about 50.00

buy one or make your own. I'd recomend 50' or 1/2" copper. I'd also highly recomend some sort of whirlpool as well. I do my whirlpool with a pump but if you don't have a pump you can simply stir it with a spoon. The whirlpool greatly increases the cooling effectiveness of the immersion chiller.

on further inspection the pids are 4" deep. I think I need a 6" deep box. I may just make my own out of plywood.

I'm not using a heat sink so no worries. I don't have any ssr's just the pid and a 24v transformer to control 2 furnace valves with standing pilot lights. At least I don't think I need an ssr or a heatsink.
