    Let's Go Buffalo!

Welcome, from Jamestown. If you are closer to the southside of Buffalo then I would recommend Dunkirk Homebrew. That is where I get all my LHBS stuff. Owner's name is Steve. Welcome to the world of HBT!

First brew- to secondary or bottle?

If you try and reboil then you will ruin your beer. Personally, I would let it sit in primary for another two weeks, then bottle it and let it sit MINIMUM one month. Your beer will be amazing and then only get better with time. Don't rush the process.

    Top 3 Micro-Breweries

I don't know if they are considered micro- or not, but three from my area would be.... 1. Southern Tier Brewing Company 2. Ellicottville Brewing Company 3. Great Lakes Brewing

Out of range OG on RIS from BB

This brew is fermenting OUT OF CONTROL!!! It blew the lid off the airlock, spraying foam all over SWMBO's dining room wall (she was pleased). So, I rigged an impromptu blow off tube instead and there is continuos bubbling. It's amazing. I ate my breakfast on the floor watching it. :-)

Out of range OG on RIS from BB

It was a Brewer's Best Kit. My sample was a litte higher temperature than my pitching temp. If I recall it was about 90 when I took it. The volume comment makes sense as well, as I had not yet sanitized my stir spoon and so didn't stir it yet. I was getting a little nervous, but...

Out of range OG on RIS from BB

Exactly, which is why I am so stumped/concerned. I'm not a genius, but I was smart enough to earn a Master's, and so smart enough (I thought) to read a hydrometer. Nevertheless, it rest squarely on 1.030, with my buddy (a physicians assistant) also confirming. Could it be that my hydrometer...

Out of range OG on RIS from BB

The OG ran out of range on the BB RIS kit that I made today. At 5 gallons, after the boil was complete it came in at 1.030 The instructions recommendation was 1.078-1.082. The recipe was : 8 oz. Crystal 60L 8 oz. Roasted Barley 8 oz. Black Patent 6.6 lb Dark LME 2 lb Dark DME 8 oz...

    Mini mash question

I'm making a porter this month and want to do a partial mash kit from austin to ease my way into all grain brewing. There are two options of kits to order for partial mash. One kit includes the DME, the other includes the LME. I'm not sure I understand what the difference would be if I ordered...

First Taste, Seems Crisp and flavorless.

Listen to Revvy. It's natural to be anxious, don't sweat it. I would say give it two more weeks in the bottles at around 7o degrees and then try another one. You'll be amazed at the results. RDWHAHB

    Acceptable Additives?

I'm going to be making my second batch of "cider" soon, but this time will be buying juice from the market. What additives are acceptable when purchasing juice? The one I see most is absorbic acid and sometimes malic acid. What ones do I absolutely want to stay away from?

    Buying Kits

Never fear, I only looked in long enough to set my siphon hose so I could get my brew over to my bottling bucket.:mug:

    Buying Kits

I'm a noob. Just made my first batch (an IPA from BB kit). I let it sit in primary for three week and just bottled it Sunday. I plan on drinking it (hopefully) sometime after the new year. I'm going to make my next batch, but I'm a little weary of buying another BB kit from my LHBS because I...

    Looking for glass carboy- WNY

Hey brewers from Western New York..... I'm looking for some glass carboys on the cheap that you may have laying around. Any of you have an extra one or two that you may be willing to part with? I'll trade for something, throw some cash, whatever. Just thought I would try here before I...

    Rochester makes me brew

I went to school in Rochester, and now I live back in my hometown, Jamestown. I haven't met any brewers in the jtown area yet. When in Rochester I frequented Rohrbachs. Good beer.

    My first batch :-)

Ok, so here are the #'s. My OG was 1.061. After 3 days and no visible fermentation happening anymore, I took another reading with the hydrometer and it measured 1.016. By my calculation the ABV is 5.9. Correct? So, I'm not planning on transferring this at all until I bottle it. I'm...
