    Beer Ruined

Ya know? I've read about how hard it is to screw up brewing beer but, this whole infection thing is really interesting to me. I mean, think about the relatively short period of time that our beer is in contact with hoses, valves and buckets as compared to the time it is exposed to air...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Thanks for the reply. I've decided to forget about the first batch until I get ready to sample/bottle my second one. I figure if it doesn't come out of it, I can still bottle some of it for salads and paint removal. Greydog

    What are you brewing today?

Apfelwein take II, for me. First batch was EdWort's Apfelvinegar. Greydog

    Man, I love Apfelwein

5 weeks in and my Apfelwein tastes like vinegar. I transfered it into a 5gal. water bottle so I could use my Better Bottle for another try. Which I started today. I was surprised to see the bazillion tiny bubbles climbing up the side of the water bottle. Do we think it is just disturbed...

    Heat Stick 3D model

Would there be any concern with it being all metal in the event of a wiring/element failure? I don't know for sure but, I think having a non-conducting handle would be a good idea. Greydog

    Brewing with your kid..Part #2

I'm happy to see so many "family" brews. As I said, my son and I had a blast and it has inspired him to get more serious about beer and brewing. Who knows? The next Adolf Coors could be one of our kids....er, wait a minute.......never mind. Greydog

    Help Me Fix My Fridge!

Frozen coils usually are a result of the evaporator being dirty or the evaporator fan not running or the air flow across the fan is restricted. Your freezer should easily reach 8-10 deg. F temperature if it is operating properly. My first guess would be the fan, being as it started after you...

    Brewing with your kid..Part #2

A few weeks ago, I asked everyone if they brewed with their kids. Some snark but, generally an interesting response. This past weekend, I was lucky to have my son (27 y.o.) here and we bottled a batch, we brewed a batch and we nearly drank a batch! Without a doubt, it was one of the...

    First Brew (with my son)

I will! I think he'll get a real surprise when he dumps the hops in. What fun.

    First Brew (with my son)

Hi all, I was wondering how many of you brew with your kids. I am going to visit my son this weekend and we are planning his first ever brew session (extract). For me, this is pretty damned exciting. I'm no expert by a long shot but, spending the time with him showing him the little I know...

    Bottle Cap Trivia

Sorry. I thought maybe having 24 caps in a baggie ready for bottling day before the actual day would be helpful. I guess I was wrong. As an aside, I thought my post might give someone an idea to use their equipment for something other than its original intent. That's just me.

    Bottle Cap Trivia

Hi all, Well, I'm one of those people that when it comes to bottling day, I don't want a bunch of left over wet from Star-san bottle caps that I have to wait for them to dry before I put them away. SWMBO isn't thrilled about the whole brewing thing anyway so, I try to clean everything up as...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Thanks, marubozo! I kind of thought that but, it's good to hear from someone who knows. Really neat how everyone helps each other here, isn't it? Greydog

    Man, I love Apfelwein

If we want to transfer to another carboy, do we want to be "gentle" with it or is air getting to it not as critical as with beer? I've tried to read the whole thread looking for an answer but d**n this is one long read! Thanks for any advice.

IYO, What is the hardest style of beer to brew?

For me, brewing beer that stays in the bottle is the most difficult.

Help what is going on in my bottles

I'm such a new guy I really don"t have the right to reply but, it seems as though time wounds all heels! By that I mean, the one thing that I've gathered from reading is that a lot of times, just waiting for a while "heals" a lot of bad tastes, smells and just about everything else that can go...

    Beer and Medicine

I figured that being as beer is God's most perfect food, what harm can it do? I, too subscribe to the brain cell theory. Although, so far, I haven't noticed me getting smarter.

    Beer and Medicine

Hi All, I'm just wondering if beer is considered a clear liquid in preparation for medical procedures? If is isn't, I vote we make it one. Greydog
