Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Bourbon Vanilla Porter (AG)

Whenever I brew this beer (about once a year) and do a Google search to re-read up on it this thread inevitably pops up and it always frustrates me. The recipe in the original post is just wrong. The grain bill was always supposed to have 1.25 lbs. of chocolate malt, not 0.5 lbs. The OG is...

    Galaxy/Amarillo IPA

Hey guys - wanting to brew a single IPA to showcase Galaxy hops, but since I'm not a big fan of single hopped beers and love Amarillo I came up with a Galaxy/Amarillo IPA. Any thoughts/feedback? Recipe Specifications -------------------------- Boil Size: 6.43 gal Post Boil Volume: 5.72 gal...

Firestone Walker Velvet Merlin Oatmeal Stout Clone

What recipe are you guys referring to? FED those recipes you posted, while they may be good, are nothing like Velvet Merlin at all. FW VM is 5.5% ABV and has no chocolate at all.

    "Session" IPA's - let's hear it!

I think I'm going to try my hand at brewing a session IPA this weekend. Goal is to use up some leftover ingredients while making a sessionable hoppy ale. Any thoughts on the following recipe? It's sort of "kitchen sink" but I think it should work out well: Batch Size (fermenter): 5.00 gal...

    Which Pliny?

The thing that bothers me about the Russian River .pdf recipe above is that the listed OG and FG don't make a beer of the ABV they state. If you started at 1.070 and ended at 1.011 as they indicate you would get a beer with 7.74% ABV, not the 8-8.5% they list. Actual Pliny (from RR's website)...

Anyone haerd of these new Yeasts from Mangrove Jack's (New Zealand)

Interested in these as well, saw them on Rebel Brewer today. Guess I'll have to pick some up - particularly interesting in the Bohemian Lager strain. All are $3.99 per pack on the Rebel Brewer site.

    Is WLP002 really that fast??

I love WLP002 but have only used WLP005 a couple times. If memory serves me correctly you definitely want to do a Diacetyl rest with 005, and it produces more esters than 002.

My Stand - Beernice (Brutus' sister)

Awesome build! Beginning a Brutus like build myself soon. Whats the reasoning behind the huge MLT? Ive seen people use 15g HLT and MLT and go with a bigger 20g BK, but not a bigger MLT. Just curious. Nice work though, love the key ignition for the main power.

Boiling water with a Kettle for washing yeast???

The reason for boiling the water is to remove the dissolved oxygen (no oxygen = inactive yeast). People throw the jars in there to sanitize them at the same time (two birds, one stone). You could definitely sanitize the jars with StarSan if you wanted, it would work fine.

    Best Burner for Natural Gas

Cool, thanks. I found this NG orifice/ball valve combo, will probably pick up 3: https://www.brewershardware.com/Valve-and-LPG-Orifice-for-BURN10.html

    Best Burner for Natural Gas

Thanks, this seems like the best route for me as I need to buy 3 without the stands and I'll be installing them in a larger stand/sculpture. How much exactly was the shipping? The website wouldn't tell me even though I completed every form - just said "we'll send you a quote" or something...

    Best Burner for Natural Gas

I'm building a new Brutus 10-esque system and would like to utilize NG - I can easily have it plumbed from my kitchen to the patio on the other side of the wall. I'm planning on stepping up to some 15g/15g/20g Blichmann Boilermakers for 11g batches. I searched and couldn't find a consensus...

Specialty IPA: Rye IPA Denny Conn's Wry Smile Rye IPA

It's been a couple years since I've brewed this fine beer so I figured I'd give it a shot for my next brew. My LHBS doesn't have any fresh Mt. Hood/Hallertauer/Liberty/noble hops/etc. - they're all from 2011 and I want to make sure I get that fresh hoppiness. Don't have time to order online...

    Looking for a house yeast

It's because English strains typically ferment very fast and flocculate well leaving a brilliantly clear beer in no time. It allows them to turn over product quickly. For that reason among the other characteristics OP was looking for I recommended WLP002 which I still stand by. Someone...
