Brewing my Second beer some time this week--advice?

Yeah I have an old heater for a 125 gallon system laying around, I figured I'd put a thermometer in a tub and see how warm the water gets.

Brewing my Second beer some time this week--advice?

The room is about 50F, some times 45F. The belt worked fine on the last batch, I just don't know about leaving it on for 2 weeks.

Brewing my Second beer some time this week--advice?

Well you've pretty much told me what I needed to know. If brewing wheat beer is a whole lot different, as far as how it reacts. I need to find a way to keep it warm, I've got a heat belt but it says not to keep it on for more than 7 days.

Brewing my Second beer some time this week--advice?

I'm brewing a wheat beer this week, and my research tells me I should probably use a blow off tube of some sort. If I can find a container big enough to hold water and my bucket I'll use that to keep it warm with an aquarium heater. I am going to leave it in the primary for 3 weeks before...

    Another first brew story...

So the lesson is, when you want the wife out of the house brew some beer! Hey you had a pretty good brew day in my opinion, nothing too unusual.

    First extract brew yesterday!

    Bottled it last night! Finished at exactly 12:00, yeah I timed that (-;

    Your top 3 beers

Negra Modelo, Sam Adams Cherry Wheat, and Warsteiner Dunkel. I need to learn to make Negra Modelo.

    Brewed my first batch today

Congrats! I just recently made my beer and am hoping it turns out right. I had an issue with other people refusing to leave the kitchen so I could make mine, so I had to keep re-sanitizing every thing, I also sanitized a special no lint kitchen wash cloth to use to wipe things off! Keep us...

    First extract brew yesterday!

A fermenter snuggie would be kind of funny(-:

    First extract brew yesterday!

I wrapped a couple blankets around it for now, it kind of stinks but hopefully it's nothing to worry about, I sanitized everything. The smell isn't overwhelming, just a little sour.

    First extract brew yesterday!

Just ordered a belt, it'll be here tuesday, hopefully the beer will be ok till then. I guess if it isn't I'll just make more, I don't give up!

    First extract brew yesterday!

Unfortunately I don't have a heater, I might have to get a belt I can put around the bucket and see what happens. Now I'm debating between regular bottles and swing tops.

    First extract brew yesterday!

Yeah I'm watching the temp, the room is only 60 degrees, but we keep the house very cold. My grandpa has some pink styrofoam type insulation, maybe I'll build a box out of that so that I can keep it at the right temp.

    First extract brew yesterday!

Thanks to everybody on here for all the help and advice. I brewed a red ale yesterday and didn't have many issues, except for the people I share a house with not understanding why I had the kitchen area blocked off. I almost had to throw a frying pan full of hamburger at the guy who decided he...

    UV sterilization?

The time to kill every thing in a one liter bottle would be 15 sec with out bulbs. But it wouldn't work in the carboy because of the size.
  16. B

    UV sterilization?

Yeah I wouldn't use it on the beer itself, but maybe on the gear and carboys as an extra precaution. But only if I can get a couple bulbs for free, sometimes they're picky on what I can take home, and sometimes they don't car. I took two $600 dollar carbon filters home the other day, just...

    UV sterilization?

I make water purifiers at work and am allowed to take scrap home from time to time. One of the things we use is a UV sterilization bulb that is supposed to be very effective, not only in killing bacteria and stuff but making sure they can no longer reproduce if they live(not sure exactly how...

    Cost of making home brew

Wow mparmer, $3.25 is still pretty good, hopefully I'll have completed my beer kit soon, after researching. I'm not ashamed to say that I use a mr. beer kit, it works for what I need it for. But it's time to move on now, I want to brew more beer!

    Cost of making home brew

I think you all have some good points, I thought about this last night and realised, I could spend 3-4 hours a day playing a video game I payed $40 for, just to be bored of it in a week and spend another $40. Or I could buy a big chemistry set and get something good out of it!
