Prototype Previews: Hopback and Heat Stick

Bobby, isnt the 10gal Bayou 13.6"d ? Based on your previous post, the HotRod at ~2" plus the 5500w element at 12.5" should not have fit, you suggested that 14.5" was about right?? Btw - it looks REALLY great. Well done on the product design.

You are welcome brother! I think that is why the ripple elements are so popular.

Prototype Previews: Hopback and Heat Stick

Thank you, there do not seem to be many 10 gal pots that would fit the element, I'll keep an eye out!

Prototype Previews: Hopback and Heat Stick

Bobby, I'm not clear on the dimensions of the hot rid plus 5500w element together. The element is 12.5 but what about when paired with the hot rod? Trying to see if this will fit into the 10gal Tall Boy which is approx 13.3" wide or whether I should plan for a different/wider pot.

    Pumpkin spice directly to keg

I did the Vodka tincture this year. There wasnt quite enough spice in the aroma or in the flavour, so vented the keg, opened the lid, added dry spice powder right on top, resealed and allowed it to sit in the kegerator for a week before I tried it. It turned out great. I don't think you'll...

Brewing All Grain on Electric Stove

I've done the two pot method quite a bit in my time and it works great when it is too cold outdoors. http://www.northernbrewer.com/connect/2012/02/stovetop-brewing-the-texas-two-step-and-split-boil/

Prototype Previews: Hopback and Heat Stick

Bobby, I came across this thread while researching different electric options. I was debating drilling and installing the element in the kettle, but the heatstick build looks amazing and I love the portability idea. It also looks fairly easy for me to swap elements should I need to replace...

Is there any way to cap twist top bottles??

I haven't had a problem capping them using a bench capper, though, I try to be a bit gentler on them

    Question for BIAB brewers

I use Jimmy's custom BIAB bags (biab-brewing.com) . Cleaning these is super easy, I rinse it over a bath tub and then just hang it up to dry. Most of the grain that didn't rinse off usually just falls/shakes right off when it is dry.

rectangle cooler mash tun false bottom.

Yeah exactly, I put the bag in, add in the strike water, and then dough in. I did put in a ball-valve and just used a stainless steel street elbow from an online homebrew store to act as a pick up. This way I never have to lift the bag. Check out Jimmy's site, he has a video of his similar...

    Heffewizen yeast comparison?

I recently used WLP300 and fermented around 62-64 and got a really nice flavour out of it, though balanced towards the clove. I thought it could use a touch more banana and will be trying a warmer ferment next brew, but overall great yeast for the traditional stylistic flavour profile.
