Brew Day with my new rig!

What a St. Patty's Day weekend in Ohio! I spent Friday night and Saturday building a 3 tier gravity fed system. Today I brewed a Roasted Irish Red to break in the stand and celebrate the weekend! I also used my new RebelBrewer grain Mill. I can't tell you how much this simplified my brew...

Grains - 6 row vs. 2 row on the specialty malts?

I picked up some bags of specialty grains, mostly Briess Caramel Malt 120l, Briess Caramel Malt 40l, Briess Vienna malt, CaraPils, etc. for 3 different recipes. I guess I always assumed these were all 2 row grains. On the package though it clearly says 6 row! What's the norm for these...

    Are these looking healthy?

My hops are starting to bud some here in NE Ohio. I know the sun is shining and it's 70 degrees here today in Ohio! Just looking for tips on the hops, should they be trimmed back more or are they looking good? Mt. Hood - Planted them last spring. Cascade Hops - transplanted this one...

    Star San Cleanup on Floor

Ok, so let's just say I had a StarSan mishap on the Pergo type fake wood floor in the closet. It probably dripped a 1/4" out of the StarSan lid onto the floor and sat there a week. I thought I had cleaned it up pretty well using a rag and water but I'm afraid I have not. It seems like if I...

    My First Threesome on BrewDay!

Hello all, I just wanted to share the results of my brew day yesterday! A buddy and I both had the day off yesterday and decided to go for the trifecto. We brewed 2 all grain brews and an extract kit. We are basically trying to get a leg up on the brews because he got some new kegs and a...

Hops - discoloration and holes in leafs

I live in Ohio and we had a terribly wet spring which I think delayed my hops from starting out solid. RIGHT Side against building: I planted these Cascade hops April 2009. This year was the first year I put up a hop pole and they are climbing well. Last year they had a good bunch of cones...

    Keggle evaporation rate

After about 10, 5 gallon batches in my converted 15 1/2 gallon keg setup I still seem to struggle with my evaporation rates during the boil being high. Some of this is leftover wort, hops, sediment (1/2 gallon or so) Yesterday I brewed a IPA with a 16.6lb grain bill. I started out with an...

    First Yeast Starter question

I have read a good bit on this but still am confused. I am brewing 2, 6 gallon batches of SG 1.069 IPA tomorrow. I purchased 2 WL WLP001 yeast vials, let them warm to 70 degrees slowly, mixed/made an 8 cups water with 1 cup of DME(boiled for 10 minutes, cooled to 70 and pitched the yeast). I...

First time AG, first time my bazooka screen clogged! Looking tips to improve process.

Well, I've been extract brewing for quite a few years and made the switch to All grain brewing with batch sparge technique. Today I did my first AG batch which was a Blue Moon Clone that Wayne1 posted. My question is, thought I did a great job draining off the wort from the mashtun (it was...

Carbonation for a Belgian Tripel and Raspberry Hefe

New to kegging but getting all ready to go... I am soon going to keg my first 2 beers. Would you all just keg both these under the same pressure? I do have a dual regulator, was planning on running one regulator to the 4 way manifold. So I have options... but I want to be able to easily...

    First keg day questions!

I have 2 extract batches of beer: batch 1 - Belgium Tripel brewed on 2/12, racked to secondary on 2/20. batch 2 - Raspberry wheat brewed on 2/19 still in primary. This will be my first time kegging so I have lots of questions/thoughts running through my mind. 1) Have I allowed enough time to...

    My Keezer Build

I first off want to thank everyone for the inspiration and courage to jump into not only kegging but also building a Keezer. It's been a fun and hungry for money project thus far!!! Part of my problem is that I wanted to get it setup the way I wanted to do it, so there wasn't necessarily much...

Milk Stout - How long to secondary ferment!?

I brewed my Mackeson Milk Stout Clone on 9/20/09 and the only thing I did special was add about 12oz of unsweetened nestles baking cocoa. I racked it to the secondary on 9/26/09. How long would you all leave it on the secondary, is it time to bottle this weekend!?

    Fermentation Temps

Over the weekend I had my house at 70 degrees and at first my wort was cooled to 70 degrees using my CF chiller. I noticed once the fermentation got going though the temp increased to about 74-75 degrees and then a few days later now has decreased back down to 70-71 after the fermentation...
