    Too Much Time in Fermenter?

My latest beer in the keg was in primary for over 2 months. It is quite delicious and zero ill effects

Forbidden fruit yeast and orange peel in fermentation

I just wanted to find out if anyone else has had this experience fermenting with Forbidden Fruit yeast. Friday, I brewed up an Ale with 2 oz of orange peel, 2 oz coriander and some chamomile. The fermentation took off like gangbusters, so I rigged a blow off tube. Today, I replaced the blow...

    I'm Happiest When...

I love everything about it. I love the learning part. Reading newbie questions on the boards and all the answers, there are always one or two answers that are "ah... I never thought about trying THAT..." or reading a book or an article about something new or something I haven't tried before...

How much does a fermentation chamber help?

Yes! The last two places I lived were Arizona and South Carolina. I brewed about 10 batches of beer without a fermentation chamber. It was way too difficult to try to control the fermentation temps without one. Unless you are lucky enough to live in a great place where your temperatures only...

Is the Chief Brewer in your home brew operation male or female?

Female only brewer in the house. Hubby has no interest in it. Says it smells like "wet dog" when I am brewing. He loves drinking it, helps me carry heavy stuff if needed, but does no brewing related tasks at all. Nothing. Nada. I am a chemical engineer, so brewing is in my DNA. My maiden name...

Belgian Tripel Belgian Trippel (2006 World Beer Cup Gold Medal: Dragonmead Final Absolution clone)

Just made the extract version and put it into the carboy a few days ago. Next time, I am going all grain on this one. The recipe looked fun, so I used it to get the "kinks" out of my brewing system after taking a 2 year break and moving from sea level to 6900 ft elevation. My two helpful...

    Midwest Supplies

Reading through this thread again, it seems a number of us who were hit were members of Credit Unions... Yes, I was hit. Yes, I will continue to shop at Midwest because I have worked with their excellent customer service on a couple of occasions and they always go above and beyond. I gave them...

    Next brew, 75 degree fermentation

I just finished a Ginger Saison at room temp. The fermentation went nuts for almost 2 weeks. It needs one more day to finish carbing up but it is a delicious ginger beauty! I will make it again but take the ginger down 1/2oz and increase coriander ny 1/2 oz. Saisons Rule!

    Wedding Beer

A cream ale is usually a good general crowd pleaser. Same with a Pale Ale. I am partial to Belgians myself but also have Biermunchers Centennial Blonde on tap at the house for the BMC folks.

    I hate pop up thunderstorms

I got hit by a downpour (without lightning) as I started cooling down with my immersion chiller. Put the lid on the pot and a garbage bag over that to keep the rain out. 25 mins later, wort was chilled to 71F. I am seriously thinking that the Brewing Gods and Goddesses were having a great time...

    I hate pop up thunderstorms

Finished my mash, hit my temps, started my sparge and then the thunder rolled in (it was still sunny when I heard the first thunder booms) All of the equipment is now indoors along with my mash pot and sparge pot. Hopefully, this will clear out in an hour or two so I can start the boil. A...

Afraid to ask, but too frustrated not to....

Another thing I have learned, if you use oxyclean with hard water, it seems very hard to get it to rinse well. I have had no problems with hard water rinsing since switching to the PBW cleaner.

More Addicted to Homebrewing than Beer?

I am another geek who truly enjoys the brewing process. I love canning the starter wort, washing and freezing yeast, planning the brew, and being outdoors with nature and Flogging Molly playing while making sure all goes smoothly. I also really love watching the dance of the fermentation. It is...

    Midwest Supplies

I had a strange but pleasant experience with them today. A few days ago, I ordered the buy one get one better bottles they had on special. A couple of days later I ordered a couple of air filters that you use for an air pump. My 2 carboys arrived yesterday and I brought them into the house...

    First time brewer

One of the things I love about making beer is the learning experience. I don't think we learn it all, but we make some damn fine beer along the way! I haven't had any ill effects opening up buckets for a short time to get a sample for gravity readings, just be sure that what you use to get a...

This is a first for me, hardly any krausen

I love this place! I brewed a beer over the weekend, a Nut Brown Ale with an OG of 1.045, all grain, English yeast WLP002 with a 2 liter starter (and a bit of yeast nutrient in the starter because I love my yeasties.) I only saw the slightest bit of krausen. The Dubbel fermenting in the...
