How to tell if DME is bad?

I bottled today and took a sample and this tsated great for it not being carbonated. I have never really liked any sample I have tasted at this stage. The North West American Ale is one of the best Ale strains I have tasted. I think I will keep this on hand at all times. You guys should try it....

    Wyeast 1332 Northwest

Tis is good to hear! I am using it right now for the first time in a Amber American, my temp is bouncing back and forth from 68-70 degrees. I wondered why more don't use this strain?

How to tell if DME is bad?

I brewed it two days ago and its going god in the fermenter. I cut the bittering hops dwon 1.5 oz because of the high AA%, I believe it's 14.5% and I am worried about it being too bitter. I like hops but I am not a hop head either. I will let you all know how it came out....

How to tell if DME is bad?

I have not brewed in about 5 or 6 months and I have some DME left over. I am getting ready to brew a couple of batches. I want to use this left over DME if I can. It looks good, I don't see any mold or anything and it smells good too. Is there a way to tell if it is no longer usable? It was...

    Irish Moss

I agree with the above post as well. My first 6 or 7 batches I did not use IM and they were pretty clear but not as clear when I use it. For no more than it cost and for what little added step I say use it...

    Where are you at INDIANA

What about Scotty's? I hear it being advertised on the local Muncie radio station all the time. As a matter of fact I'm getting ready to head over to Muncie to stop at the LHBS. I need to pick up a few supplies, too bad I have to work tonight or I would stop by there....

Does dry yeast taste different than liqiud?

I've got the John Bull master class Porter kit. It comes with a yeast packet but it's not marked like Jay says his is. I might try it just for the heck of it, I can'r imagine that it would be too bad, besides it's coming from John Bull.... ETA...it's marked "Beer Yeast 245"

Does dry yeast taste different than liqiud?

I just back into brewing after a 10 year break and I remember my first batch. I pitched a dry yeast packet into the cooled wort and got great fermentation but the brew had a slight after taste that I never noticed using liquid yeasts. I must admit that I did not hydrate the dry yeast packet, I...

    Could I do this....

Great info guys!! I just ordered my supplies and it should be here time for me to rack the first batch. One last question on the subject. Could I remove 3/4 of the cake and pour the cooled wort over the remaining 1/4 of the cake? I'm thinking this is just a bit more than a starter when it is...

    Could I do this....

Okay, thanks I will read the thread. I made a mistake it's a 6.5 gallon bucket, the carboy is 5 gallons....

    Could I do this....

Thanks again, it's just a 5 gallon bucket. I might have to rethink this and just buy another Yeast packet. What causes the wild fermentation? What if I just kept a small amount of the left over? Like maybe enough to fill a drinking glass, remove and sanitize the left over. Brew, pitch the wort...

    Could I do this....

Thanks for the input!! All I have is a plastic primary with an airlock, I don't have a blow off so if I do this then what should I do in order to keep the pressure down?

    Could I do this....

Hello all, I am returning to home brewing after a 11 year break. I brewed my first batch last week and I have it in the primary. Checked on it today after being in the primary for 8 days. All looks, smells and tastes good after a reading. I made a Porter from a partial extract, I used Wyeast...
