    For Sale: Lots of Stuff!

I'm leaving/taking a break from the brewing hobby and would like to sell everything I have. I'm located in Cincinnati, Ohio and travel to Columbus, Ohio often if you would like to arrange a local pick up. Of course, we can always work out shipping. Anyways here's a list of what I have: 5...

    Leaving OneStep to Sit Overnight

I started my first mini-mash about 20 minutes ago but after sanitizing everything, I realized I don't have the time or energy to brew tonight. Anyway, all I managed to do was get a bucket of OneStep solution ready and I threw a couple items in it to soak. Since I plan on brewing around 4pm...

    LME for Starter

Hey guys, I'm sure this info is on this site somewhere but after a quick search I couldn't find it. Palmer's book (How to Brew) states that you should boil a pint of water and stir in 1/2 cup of DME to make your starter. Since I don't have any DME, is it ok to just use the same amount of LME...

Ginger Ale to Treat Motion Sickness Symptoms

My girlfriend gets really bad motion sickness almost every time she gets in a car. I recently read about the health benefits of ginger and came across a site (Health Benefits of Ginger) that claims that ginger can provide more motion sickness relief than dramamine. Does anyone know if the...

    First 2 brews taste awful...

Thanks for all the info guys! Looks like I'll be focusing on ferm temps and just waiting longer before I bottle. :)

    First 2 brews taste awful...

Of course, I'm not rejecting what you say. I'll definitely be leaving it in the fermenter longer from now on. Just wanted some clarification.

    First 2 brews taste awful...

Right, I understand that bottle conditioning must take place. However, I know that plenty of people go by the 1-2-3 rule, which would suggest to me that 2 weeks in primary is fine, as long as the beer is spending ample time in bottles (as in, 2 weeks more than you would usually let them bottle...

    First 2 brews taste awful...

Okay, I'll definitely be going back and changing one variable at a time on the True Brew kit after I brew the AHS kit. Now that I think of it, I think my LHBS had me add a rather large amount of dextrose to the winter warmer which is probably adding off-flavor. Next time I'm there I'll see if...

    First 2 brews taste awful...

Yeah, the temperature is definitely the culprit for my first batch, but since then I've kept temps down between 60 and 64. Revvy, I swear I've read those two links you supplied at least twice before, but it seems there are so many people that say 2 weeks is enough before bottling. For my next...

    First 2 brews taste awful...

I've brewed 3 batches now. The first was a True Brew IPA extract kit. It sat in primary for 2 weeks and has now been bottled for 4 weeks. Still tastes gross like cider, which I was somewhat expecting because of way too high fermentation temps (80s). Now, maybe I'm just getting discouraged...

Old Extract Kit--Should I Brew It?

Update: I ended up trashing the kit...didn't brew it after I opened the lid of the LME and smelled like complete crap.

    Homebrewing.org Kegging Setup

Awesome! That's really helpful. I'm not too concerned with leaving space in my freezer because it's 20 cu ft and I don't see myself ever getting more than 4 kegs, but thanks for the advice. I think I'll go with the 10# cylinder...I live near downtown cincinnati and with all of the industry here...

    Homebrewing.org Kegging Setup

Does anyone have experience buying a kegging setup from homebrewing.org? They seem to have very cheap setups...almost too good to be true, so I thought I would ask around here. Thanks! Here's the link: Homebrew Kegging System Also: Will a 10lb co2 tank fit inside my chest freezer or would...

    Bare Minimum Needed to Keg

Okay. The midwest kits don't look bad at all, but can I upgrade to a tap with a shank and everything so that I can have to tap coming out of the freezer through the collar or would I have to open the freezer every time I wanted a beer? It looks like they all come with picnic taps...unless I...

    Bare Minimum Needed to Keg

Yeah I've been looking around on craigslist for a week or two for kegs and co2 tanks but I'm not entirely sure what I need to get besides that. Can I just go to a hardware store and grab some 5/16'' hose for gas and 3/16'' for beer lines? Is a faucet wrench necessary? Where can I find a cheap...

    Bare Minimum Needed to Keg

Hello all! I'm a college student on a budget but I really want to get into kegging. I was wondering if any of you guys had a "grocery list" of items I need to start kegging. I already have a 20 cu ft. chest freezer and a collar for it. I was thinking of just buying the whole starter kit on...

    Wrong Collar Measurements!

okay. I was trying to avoid having to go to Home Depot because when I go in there I like to spend money! But it is definitely a good idea to do it right the first time...
