    Frozen Iodophor?

I was really smart and kept my iodophor in unheated storage during a New England winter. Went to bottle up some beer a few minutes ago, and lo and behold, when it is 3 degrees at sunrise, you might have some frozen stuff in unheated areas. Go figure... I've got it in a water bath right now...

    What should I expect?

I primed 5 gallons of a gluten-free beer (that's not the important part) with a measly pint of cider, as that was all I had that was gluten-free when I had the time to bottle it. It's been on the bottles for a few days, and since it was my first batch with the sorghum syrup I had to try some...

Is this enough info for me?

I've done a couple of AG brews, and now I've decided it's time to get my water under control, or at least know what's in it anyway. I've got the test bottle for ward labs sitting on the table looking at me right now, but my dog just got cancer and the vet isn't cheap. However, I discovered...

    Decolorized Iodine?

I bought decolorized iodine by mistake. I had no idea such a thing existed, and didn't notice it on the bottle in the store. I just tried to use it to check my conversion on my first all grain when I noticed the lack of iodine-color to it. It changed color some, but I'm not sure if the...

    Gravity lower than anticipated?

I just brewed up an APA yesterday, and the gravity ended up being 1.033 instead of 1.054. It was a 5 gallon batch with 5.5# of light LME, 1.1# of wheat LME, 1/2# 10L and 1/2# 20L. Even without any of the crystal malts, the gravity should have been way higher than it ended up being. Am I...

Was it one or all of the changes?

I decided I'd redo an APA that I made a few rounds back. Armed with my ingredient list, I went to my LHBS. I told the nice man what I was looking for, and he told me he didn't have that LME, but had DME would work. He didn't have the right yeast, either. Something about a guy that buys all...

    5 gallon primary?

I'm wondering if anybody has ever used a 5 gallon bucket for a primary with a 5 gallon batch. I figure with a blow off tube, you won't lose any of the actual wort, but I don't know if the krausen that would end up flowing out the tube would have ended up contributing flavor to the beer...

    Hey there!

I just found this board (the introductions one, I mean). I've got a few batches behind me, and I love it! I'm learning whole boat-loads of info from reading old posts. Thanks for all the info, guys!

    Using more extract?

I made a batch of Pale Ale recently, and I'm trying to make it again. The problem is, the LHBS was out of the liquid extract, and I got the dried instead. I know to use different weights of them, but I have a question anyway. The first batch I made of that used 5.5 lbs of LME, and I have 6...
