    Fermentation with a FastFermenter

FastFastfermenter has an accessory 'sampling port' with a drill bit available. This should make pulling samples easier. I guess you could also bottle from it as well if you placed very low in the fermenter itself.

White Labs WLP002 English Ale 'Lumpy"?

I put White Labs WLP002 in the stirrer last evening for an ESB I plan on brewing tomorrow. This morning the yeast has hundreds of tiny lumps floating. It's hard to see in the photo, but you get the idea. Not sure what this all about, do I have a problem here? The yeast was kept refrigerated...

Mobile Beer Lab released for iOS

How do you delete ingredients? Say you add a hop and then wish to delete, don't see any obvious way to do that except make the quantity or time zero. What am I missing? Thanks!

    FastFerment conical fermenter??????

The conical shape and ball are designed to just that. After 1 week, I emptied the ball and reattached. After 1 more week emptied the ball again, attached the bottling attachment, stirred in priming sugar and bottled. Finished beer was crystal clear.

BrewDog Brewing releases entire recipe catalog

"In 2005, two guys and a dog began home brewing in a garage in North-Eastern Scotland. Two years and countless successes & failures later, BrewDog came howling into the world. Eight years after that - and more than 200 different beers later - we released the recipe and story behind every single...

    Best Beer Podcasts?

Agreed once on point, it's an informative gold mine of information. But, wading through the amateur hour attempts at sophomoric bathroom humor, verging on vulgarity is a general turnoff.

    critique my logo please

Correct. Franklin's cartoon had nothing to do with the war of 1812. That's settled.

    Clean VS Sanitized

Not all germs are enemies. Just enough of them to make people ill because many fail to wash their hands when needed. Similarly, there's enough germs around to make your beer become ill as well. Sanitization is simple common sense.

    Clean VS Sanitized

What do you intend to vigorously wash with? Soap, detergents? Aren't these also chemical additives? It's my understanding most typical soap type residue will have a unfavorable result when used in contact with brewing equipment.

    Grainfather electric all-grain brewing tips

It took about 20 minutes to pump the wort (6 Gal) into the fermenter. You need to slow the wort flow down enough to maximize the heat transfer from the cool water. Amount of water to cool? I never measured it.

    Grainfather electric all-grain brewing tips

I got a nice Grandfather boil on a 120V, 20 amp, dedicated circuit using no extension cords and the ‘Gaincoat’ installed in a rather cool basement (60F). Time to boil from mash temp of 154F: 35 minutes. Total boil volume: 7.5 US Gals. Very happy with my first Grainfather brew day...

    critique my logo please

Join, or die. The famous Ben Franklin editorial cartoon -- a favorite. Not sure what it has do to with the War of 1812 because it preceded it by quite a few years. But, nice design.

    Safe Kitchen BIAB Pulley

I got one of these from Harbor Freight. Not the best quality, but does the job of lifting a heavy load for a very cheap price. I rigged mine up to lift a Grainfather basket in the basement with an eye-hook fastened to an overhead floor joist...

Are these Hops additions too much?

Yes, that's the one. From Jamil's Brewing Classic Styles. Doing the all-grain version in my Grainfather for first-time brew. I'm a little worried all of those hops will clog-up the pump and filter. I was looking to scale the hops back a little without ruining the brew.

Are these Hops additions too much?

Doing a Jamil Zainasheff version of a Nut Brown Ale recipe with the Hop addition listed below. Being a new all grain brewer, it seems these hop additions are on overload. Maybe a Nut Brown/IPA? Any suggestions on simplifying the Hop additions? Opinions? Also, not sure what the (zero) means in...

How powerful is too powerful when building stir plate?

I'm able to get very good speed control using this circuit taken from the following source, I agree a larger stir-bar may help slow it down: http://stirstarters.com/instructions.html

Messed-up my grain bill, now what?

Thanks for the great suggestions!! And, information. I decided to split it in half an make 2 batches!!!! And, stick to the original Jamil Zainasheff's "Janet's Brown Ale" Recipe.

Messed-up my grain bill, now what?

Not thinking, I messed up my grain bill on my 1st all-grain attempt. I ordered the grain in whole pounds, thinking I’d measure them out later. Instead they ground and mixed them all together (my fault). ---------------------------------------------- 5 Gallon Nut Brown Ale recipe called...
