Water addition to make five gallons

I top off right out of the tap into the Primary. My beer has turned out just fine. Although I suspect mileage may vary depending on the quality of your tap water.

    2105 Badger Brew Off

So I got my score sheet back today and I'll say I'm pretty happy about the results...I scored a 31 which fell within the Very Good range, which I'm very satisfied with. This was the 5th beer that I've brewed, even counting my initial 1 gallon batch! The feedback was also valuable with the most...

American Pale Ale Three Floyds Zombie Dust Clone

Made this about 3 months ago and it turned out incredible! I'm relatively new to brewing, but this has been by far my favorite beer. Thanks for sharing! I'm getting ready to brew this tomorrow again, but wanted to experiment with a few things...trying to learn more about how changes to...

American Pale Ale Three Floyds Zombie Dust Clone

Just bottled my first attempt at this brew on Thursday evening. I was surprised by how sweet it smelled, it was an incredible smell. Would you describe it as a sweet smell? I've never had the real thing, so not sure I know what to expect. I also tried a sip before I dry-hopped and before...

American Pale Ale Three Floyds Zombie Dust Clone

How many liters of Yeast Starter are you guys using for this recipe? Using the 5g extract batch size, Mr Malty is saying 3.5L. This will be my first starter, but I've yet to see anyone talking about making a 3.5L starter... I'll be doing a simple starter, I don't have a stir plate. I'm using...

    Brown Flakes after Krausen Drop

Thanks hottpeper. I had read elsewhere that these are just yeast colonies likely supported on the surface by CO2. I think I will let it continue to condition right in the primary, I had heard someone else mention the extra week helped the flavor with their Irish Red. I'll give it three...

Also note, this was liquid Wyeast 1084.

    Brown Flakes after Krausen Drop

Only my 2nd batch, this is a Irish Red Ale that started with a nice Krausen, active fermentation, etc. During the fermentation process you could see darker "crust" flakes forming throughout the top. Now that the Krausen has dropped, the brown flakes are suspended on top. Is this normal?

Hi All, Just wanted to introduce myself and thank the community for all the great information available on this forum. As a newbie homebrewer I had two significant accomplishments this weekend: 1) I tasted my first brew that I had done 4 weeks ago. It was only a gallon batch and was a...
