Have access to a heat gun? Could try to loosen up whatever adhesive that was used after you get the tower off. If not, you can strip/sand down the existing top and refinish it or cut it back as far as you can and just put a new hardwood top on and trim it out to hide the old one.

A little slow going since April is busy time at work and then I've had relatives in and out for most of May so far. Back on it though.
