    Trouble shoot

Yep it could be described as apply tartness. However I would have thought my process would have been similar to most people in terms of oxidation risk. Fermenter to bottling bucket via syphon then bottling wand attached to bottling bucket tap for bottling. Are there any common ways to avoid...

    Trouble shoot

I don't treat it with anything. It's Melbourne (Australia) tap water and from the limited info I can find it should be fine. Bit yeah, that is one area on my radar. Would you just try a batch with bottled water? Or is treating the tap water easy?

    Trouble shoot

Hi guys I've been brewing solidly for about a year now and am happy with my progress. All my beers are drinkable and fairly enjoyable but they do all have a bit of a taste that I wish they didn't. The taste is quite faint, I don't it's an infection as I've had a few of those before. It's...

    A question on grains

Hi guys Have tried to do a bit of research on this but haven't been able to find much. Hoping someone here can enlighten me. When extract brewing, specifically IPAs and other pale ales, what are the main options available with regards to steeping grains? I know crystal is the obvious one...

    Beersmith 2 IBU calcs

So it turns out the IBUs are getting skewed by me entered my DME at a late boil time as opposed to the full 60min. The IBU changes massively when you alter the DME boil time due to built in hop utilisation factors. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Should I just enter all DME as 60min boil even...

    American IPA recipe critique

Hi guys I have revisited this American IPA recipe and wondering what people think of the below. Estimated OG is actually 1.066 (I was reading Beersmith wrong) so have left the DME at 7.5. This is coming out at 69.5 IBUs Appreciate any help or ideas about what people would change if they were...

    American IPA recipe critique

Thanks Yooper, appreciate your input, will revise the hop and extract quantities. And yep, was planning on doing majority of extract at flame out. Just curious why you wouldn't halve the yeast if you are halving everything else?

    American IPA recipe critique

Hi all Have had a couple of successful brews and have just come up with my first recipe for an American IPA. Wondering if anyone would mind letting me know if they think it looks OK. Have run it through beersmith which gives OG 1.046 and FG 1.015. After primary fermentation I plan to prime...
