    Porter Lager?

    Ok, so I was at a gastro/brew pub this weekend in a large-ish city and they only serve their own beer. In perusing their menu I noticed that one of their offerings was a Porter which they described as a lager? Say what? Sure, (most) all things are possible but is THIS possible?

    I'm going to be in Cincinnati next week. I finally got a chance to try some Rhinegeist and am most impressed. Is their Saber Tooth Tiger still available in stores or at their brewpub? Thx.

    Peace Stout Kit: Coffee Stout

    Hey gang. I have made about 15 to 20 batches of beer (AG & Extract) and I pretty much have my process down to a level that produces quality beer. However, I made a Peace Stout Kit that was sent to me by the good folks at Northern Brewer for free for ordering some dollar value's worth of stuff...

    Trying to understad Saison/Farmhouse

    Sometimes the beer world moves too fast for us old guys. :) I'm trying to understand what makes a saison/farmhouse a saison/farmhouse. Does that make sense? The lines seem to be blurred, at least to me. Is it basically just a malt bill fermented with a belgian style yeast? Is it as...

    If you had $ what would you buy next?

    So, it appears that I am at a crossroads. I am about 15 batches into this all-consuming hobby and I want to make sure my purchases move me in the direction of producing better beers, etc. I have done extract, partial mash and all grain brews (1 gal only) and have enjoyed each approach. All of...

    Girl Scout Cookie Caramel Delites (Samoas) Beer

    Hi all. I apologize if this is the wrong place for this question. I want to brew a brown ale that will come out tasting like Caramel Delites (Samoas)which are Girl Scout cookies made with chocolate, caramel and coconut. I searched the google and saw a couple of recipes on brew toad. I also...

    Beer w/ Honey {not mead}

    I have made 3 beers so far to try and showoff the honey that our bees (down on ye olde farm) have ever so lovingly produced. However, the styles I have chosen aren't really delivering the goods. 1) In your opinion, what is the best style of beer to really make a honey profile shine? I've...

    Dry Hopping & Cold Crashing {conflicted}

    I have run into an issue that I haven't witnessed before and I am conflicted on how to proceed. Situation ---------- I have read many of these forums and they advocate for dry hopping no long than 5 to 7 days. I can't speak to the veracity of those claims but I am working on the assumption...

    AHA Membership. Why/Why Not?

    Hi all. Just trying to wrap my head around the value of an AHA membership. I like their magazine and I have picked up a couple at my local shop a few times to read. However, outside of the magazine, what does a membership really get you? Is there a real need that they are filling? i.e. is...

    Secondary & Dry Hopping Best Practices

    Greetings. I have read countless threads on this site and a lot of folks advocate for skipping the secondary and just leaving it in the primary for a longer time and call it a day. Totally get that and respect it but this time I'm not sure I can get away with that given the need to dry hop and...

    Check list before takeoff: Plinian Legacy

    I have researched and read these forums over and over but I just want to make sure I'm not forgetting something before I dive into the NB Plinian Legacy kit (extract) today. These forums have suggested: **Using fermcap during the boil **Adding hops to a bag during the boil to aid in cleanup...

    Wort Chiller How To

    Going to pick up a copper coil wort chiller this week. Seems like a great idea to quickly cool the wort/beer but I have a question. Once I have achieved the appropriate temperature do I remove the coil from the pot or do I siphon the beer into the carboy with the coil in place? I can...

    Blowoff Tubing

    Howdy. I plan on brewing today or tomorrow (Christmas) and need a blowoff hose for an active and overly-hopped brew. I need OD 1 1/4" and ID 1". I have no local brew shops but there are hardware shops that have this size vinyl tubing. Question: does this tubing need to be food grade...

    Cold Crash Bottling + Yeast ???

    Hoppy Holidays, mates. ;) I just cold crashed a couple of 1 Gallon batches for the first time because there was so much dry hop pellet gunk still floating at the top. Checked on it this morning and the stuff has dropped to the bottom and the beer already looks clearer. I am concerned...

    Dry Hop & Oxygen Concern

    Hi there. Still on my first couple of brews and I decided to make a 1 Gal DIPA that called for dry hoping. Now the top of my 1 Gal fermenter has an inch of expanded hop pellets. Questions: 1. It's time to bottle, so do I just run my mini-auto siphon through the sludge to start pulling...
