Finally stepped up to an Immersion Chiller

Got really tired of ice water baths... Although I could chill it to pitching temp in a little over an hour, it was a PITA. Enter Homebrewing.org with a 50' stainless IC for $90. Sold. Just chilled 6 gallons of a big stout from boiling to 65F in 10 minutes!:rockin: Just felt the need to...

    Port Brewing Mongo Yeast

Bought several of these ('cause I love 'em so!), and set one aside. I noticed a good amount of yeast settled after a month or so, so I harvested and am propagating now. It is the brewing yeast, or is this one bottle conditioned? Any one else try this from Port Brewing? Thanks for the help.

    CW Crate

I got tired of storing my bottles in worn out cardboard boxes. I saw the CW Crate ad in BYO, so I decided to try them out. Things didn't start out great, as the coupon code did not work. A quick e-mail to them was answered right away, saying it should work. They did say they would be sure to...

    BJCP categories: ethical question.

Are the categories more about what actually is in the beer, or what it tastes like could be in the beer? Here's my dilemma: After 4 competitions with a citra DIPA, I get about 50% comments on how there is a flaw in the beer. Usual comments are "a strange tropical fruit" flavor. Is it wrong to...

Trip to San Jose - finally had Green Flash

Boy, great West Coast IPA and decent IIPA. I also picked up Ballast Point Big Eye (I have had it before, and loved it), and one I have not had: Black Diamond Rampage IPA. I only wished there was more room in my luggage!

Gotta' say... this is a really nice beer. Not quite IPA, but not your average PA either. Tasty, tasty!

Beer aging question - does alcohol heat dissipate?

I just tried a Unita Labyrinth Black Ale. It's a big stout with amazing flavors, but the alcohol burn in the flavor is a bit high. Will aging help? It doesn't seem that it would, but I would appreciate anyone's experience here. Eric

    Keezer construction question

OK, I have a have a question about building a collar: Some people mount the collar on the base of the freezer, some on the lid: How are the collars attached to the lid? You'd think an engineer would figger' this out, but I have had a couple Deschutes Hop in the Dark CDA's. I have the...
