    1st crack at IPL

I don't want to be a downer but....I tried a very simular recipe (Schwarts Bier with extra hops). The beer was good, but in a IPL style, I personally don't think it was worth all the extra time & effort to lager that. I can get very close results making a IPA with a good yeast or a hybrid yeast...

    1st crack at IPL

Looks like a good start , I like IPA's and I'm also doing my 1st APL (just finishing primary now) I backed off on some bittering hops because the clean lager yeast will let more malt and hop and bitter come through . I'm trying a balanced bittering and a forward aroma dry hop. Should be good...

    Detroit Water Analysis: Thoughts?

Great feedback guys, thanks. I'll have to look at water closely before brewing a style. I was just under the impression we have the best water around the country right here (at a 10 ' depth) ....

    Detroit Water Analysis: Thoughts?

Bottom line: Is Detroit water GREAT for making normal beers? Lhbs says yes! There's been 100's of brewers located in Detroit over 300 years getting water right out of the river, made great beer. So do we now have issues here?? Negro-toxins have been increasing , I think the water treatment...

    Measuring Fermentation Temperatures

All this time, I've thought my 65 degree basement was perfect for ales. Lager's I understand have to be much lower temps. Is there a chart on here that matches type of brew, type of yeast, and target temp? What are the bad things that happen if ale temp is too high? Lager? Should everyone have a...

    3 Common Yeast Misconceptions

@WoodlandBrew, I pitch the whole slurry and it works just fine, I have no idea how many cells are in a 1/2 gallon; but fermentation flat out rocks! Not sure how its effecting taste of the beer with some old trub in it, but it works for me :-) I normally drain my conical into a gallon jug, fill...
