    Still good to drink

Ok....So if you've read my signature, you know that the basement flooded back in June and they had to tear it apart and are still putting it back together....Very bad. Since then all of my brew equipment went into storage....Also very bad. I did keep one of the kegs around because I took...

    What do you Think??

I was out of town over the last couple of days and on my way back home I stopped into a LHBS to see if there selection differed from my home town. The Selection wasn't too different but a Kit was on Sale ....WOOHOO!! Anyway, the Kit I purchased is a Festa Brew Red Ale. Basically it is a 23...

Basement Flooded, but the Beer is OK!!

So all of last week, the contractor was in to completely destroy all of the basement and clean up the mess..........GO INSURANCE!! WATER SUCKS!!!!! Luckly for me my brews were on shelves and in the fridge (both up off the floor) and nothing got submerged.....WOOHOO!!! SWMBO is talking...

    low alcohol

I made my last brew the same as all the rest. Put the same amount of sugar...etc..... Either our alcohol tolerance is getting better or it's pretty weak. We each had 7 or 8 and we weren't really feeling much. It bubbled and went on like normal. Any thoughts???? IGOR

    Contact Time

It's Mother's day so call your Mother!!! There!!! I did a quick search for this but nothing for oxygen came up. I'm using a one step no-rinse santizer call "OXY-SAN". I've used it for the last five batches and everything seems to be working well. I really like the no-rinse part...

    To Repitch.....?

Hey, I've put on a batch of a pilsner on Saturday afternoon and haven't really seen any action. There is a small build up of wannabe krausen, but every other batch I've made has gone off without a problem. Any thought's about added more yeast? Maybe just giving it another stir? The...

    Tasty

Last weekend, much to my suprise, I finished off a soda keg of Red Ale. It was an excellent beer!!! Lucky for me during the bottling, the keg filled up and I was left with enought left over to fill 11 bottles.....EXCELLENT I SAID!!! Well tonight was the first bottle that I had from that...

    Good Deal!!! I think!!

Hey All, I was looking through the Sunday flyers this morning and noticed a 30 quart pot with cover and a 50,000 BTU propane burner in a combo. There listing it as a turkey fryer, but for $57 CAN that seem to be a good price. I would like to expand my brewing and I believe this would be...

    Does Length Really Matter!!

My Wife says no!!...But I think she's lying to me!!! Anyway, I put my Red Ale into a 5 gal Keg on Saturday, purged out the O2, put it in the Fridge and let it cool, then hooked up the CO2 and adjusted my Pressure to 12 PSI. That PSI at 38F gives me 2.57 volume. Perfect according to the...

    System is Force Carbing...I think!!

So yesterday I got my keg system all setup. :D I can only put on soda keg in the bar fridge right now....little steps people...little steps. So I want a 2.6-2.8 volumes......So I get the temperature of the Fridge which is 40 F...and I get the chart, and find I need to set the regulator to...

    Have question!!

Hey Y'all I finally got my CO2 and regulator and got it filled yesterday. :ban: I now have everything that I need, and my batch is ready to be transferred to the soda keg. My question is involving the seal from the regulator to the CO2 tank. Is teflon tape ok for this fitting? I...

    The Travelling Coke Keg

Hey Everyone, I will be going on a golf trip in June, and while I realize that the trip is still aways off, I have a question that has popped into my head. In about 1-2 weeks I will be putting my next batch into a coke keg. My thought is to have a batch ready to take on the golf trip with...

    Beer Gas

I was talking to a guy at the compressed gas shop today and he mentioned that they have a gas mixture that is called "beer gas". It is 30% CO2 and 70% Nitrogen. Has anyone had any experience with this mixture? I know that people have used nitrogen for stouts, but I probobly will never...

    The Plastic Primary

Hey Y'all, I was wondering who among you uses a carboy for a primary instead of the "white plastic bucket". My work involves some travel and sometimes for extended periods, and those periods are usually a surprise. So I was thinking about having the brew in the carboy with an airlock...

    Balls vs. Pins

This really isn't a poll, just a discussion. Does anyone feel like either ball or pin connectinons are going to dissappear. Just wondering how the market is, or are both types still safe to go with? Also, is it possible to change one to the other by bolting on a new connection to the...

Oh No!! I Think I Waited To Long!!!

Hey Y'all I've had a brew in the secondary since oh..........before Christmas. I am going to bottle tonight, but there are these little white "things" floating on top and sticking to the side of the carboy (at the top of the beer level). Are these little white things a problem. Since it...

    How Long??

I've had a batch in the carboy for almost a month now. With work and Christmas I just haven't got around to bottling it. It is still airlocked and looks very clear. I haven't openned it since I racked it over. Should it still be okay to bottle? I don't want to open it and check the...

    Never Again!!!!

I recently brewed my first batch and it went very well.....................the more I've let it sit the better it has become. I have 11 left. The problem is that I'm running out of brew before the next batch is ready to bottle. STUPID!!! I should of started the second batch right after I...

    Just Transferred

I just transferred my batch from primary to secondary and the bubbling rate has dropped from 4-5 seconds to pretty much zero. There was a foam on the surface of the carboy during the transfer and I think there may of been an airleak somewhere in the shipon. Do I have a problem or am I just...

    Hot or Cold

When adding priming sugar in bulk prior to the bottling: (correct me if I'm wrong) I should boil 3/4 cup into 1 cup of water of dextrose (or whatever) Now shoudl I let the solution cool before I add it or add it hot. I would think that hot solution would be evil on the little...
