What 2015 BJCP Category should i enter this in...

It actually turned out really nice. The cereal favors were a bit too subtle and faded fairly quick but it had a huge mouth feel and the underlying milk stout was excellent.

What 2015 BJCP Category should i enter this in...

We brewed up a milk stout with an off-the-shelf breakfast cereal (mostly added to the mash but also added some to the boil). This is a sugary sweet kiddie cereal (Reese's Puffs) - not an "adult" cereal. We're thinking about entering it in a contest but have no idea what category to enter it in...

    Stir Plate / Heat Plate

After a year or so of semi-loyal service my home-made computer-fan stir plate seems to be on it's last leg. Rather than cobble another one together I was thinking I might spring for a commercially made one. While looking on eBay I noticed that a lot of the ones made for laboratory work also...

    Creating a whirlpool vessel

Thanks for the quick responses. I actually have a false bottom in my BK too Dolomieu (albeit a really cheap little one). It definitely helps but I still get a goodly amount of crud going through the CFC into the fermenter. Homebrew57 I may go that route. Shortening the diptube would be easy and...

    Creating a whirlpool vessel

We're using a three keggle eHERMS system. In an effort to maximize yield, I built it so that the diptube in the boil kettle draws from the little concave section in the center of the bottom of the keg. This unfortunately precludes us from whirl-pooling (all the hop gunk builds up right on top of...

Reverse Osmosis: To DI or not to DI?

Aha - good to know! That's pretty much exactly what I was wondering about (and it also clears up another question I had). Well, since the DI filter is already on there and it's not costing me anything extra to use it, I may as well. And if it ever craps out, I'll just bypass it altogether...

Reverse Osmosis: To DI or not to DI?

Don't take this the wrong way but I think you guys are doing the same thing I found on most the other posts asking about RO and/or DI water - assuming that I plan on brewing with 100% RO/DI and building the chem profile back up from that blank slate. That is not the case. I only plan on using it...

Brew & A: Lorena "Yooper" Evans

My wife and I practically live at Tribute Brewing when ever we're in Northern Wisconsin (which is about once a month). Great beers and great people. Maybe we'll run into you there sometime Yooper. :)

Reverse Osmosis: To DI or not to DI?

I may do just that (send both off for testing). Would like to see how they compare. Both stages are definitely after the RO membrane though. And there was no holding tank with this system. It was labeled as a "portable" system. It actually serves my purposes well (or rather will once I figure...

Reverse Osmosis: To DI or not to DI?

It's not real clear whether it does or not. The instruction sheet is pretty much useless. Here's what the description said on the eBay auction I bought it from: DUAL USE REVERSE OSMOSIS WATER FILTER SYSTEMS DI FOR AQUARIUM USE OR ANY OTHER APPLICATION NEEDING DI DRINKING WATER AND...

Reverse Osmosis: To DI or not to DI?

I'm sure this has been covered already somewhere but I wasn't able to find the answer so hopefully someone can help. I just bought an RO system which has a bypassable DI stage. As the very scant instruction sheet says, "Blue Tube is for the drinking water. White Tube is your DI water." I bought...

Which styles do you find age well - which don't?

My wife and I have been brewing about a year and a half now and have done somewhere around 38 batches in that time. I've got a goodly amount of beer on hand from last year (we kind of went crazy brewing nearly every weekend last summer!) and have been finding that some are tasting really nice...

    Keezer Question

Excellent! Thanks for the feedback! I will definitely add some insulation when I build mine.

    Keezer Question

I've been looking around at some of the keezer projects in the forum and online and have noticed that most people do not insulate their collars. I was thinking it would be easy to cut some Styrofoam insulation boards into strips and attach them to the inside of the collar for added efficiency...

Switched from droid to iPhone - need app advice

Thanks for the tips! I will check into them. I did come across one called "Brewcalc" which has a refractometer conversion function so that will come in handy. I punched a few gravities from past brews into it and it came out slightly off what the refractometer app I previously used came up with...

Switched from droid to iPhone - need app advice

So I've just made the switch from a Droid to an iPhone (God I hated my Samsung Droid - couldn't make or receive calls from inside pretty much *any* building!) and am finding that the brewing apps I used on the Droid aren't available in the i-world. So I could use some advice on what apps to get...

    New Basement Brewery Build

Heh I can relate. We've attempted to bottle or do other fairly involved tasks while in the midst of brewing a few times and have since figured out it's kinda risky to get distracted. Especially while sparging!

    New Basement Brewery Build

Awesome build! I've been studying it(along with some of the other one posted on HBT) as I plan my own. I'm sure you'd rather spend time brewing on it now that it's done, but any chance you could post a narrative (and maybe some pics) of your clean up procedure?
