    Tax question - cash received

The gift tax limitations for reporting is $14,000 per gift recipient (this changes occasionally and with the current bill in congress, I wouldn't be surprised if it goes away). Your father can give you $14k a year with no filing requirements and no effect on exclusionary amount of his estate...

How long is your brew day?

I once had Beer Smith tell me I had 106% efficiency with a BIAB batch. Math is hard, lets go shopping.

    Oktoberfest bier help (need recipe)

I've done BierMuncher's OktoberFAST Ale a couple of times. Probably your best bet for time. With kegging you should be able to go Grain to Glass in 2-3 weeks.

    adding more grain

More than tripling the amount of Crystal is going to leave you with a lot more unfermentable sugars and a sweeter finishing beer. You're better off putting the excess in a ziptop bag and throwing it in your freezer and using it in the future.

    Mailing Cold Beer

It's also worth noting, it's illegal to ship alcohol via USPS, and UPS & FedEx really don't like to do it if you don't have a resellers permit. I wouldn't screw with the Postal Service but just don't mention what's in it to UPS & FedEx.

    wilserbrewer BIAB bags

I used my bag for the first time today after ordering it around the first of the year and thought "Hmm, it would be nice if there were a cord lock here". Good to know it works, I'll have to add one. The bag and the pulley worked out quite well for me, I just wrapped the cord around the bag...

    Suggested Refractometer

I'm interested in the answer to this too, I've been thinking about picking one up myself. That said, I do know that refractometers are good for pre-fermentation measurements but need to be adjusted after fermentation begins so you may want to keep a hydrometer around anyway.

    Another overpitching question (sorry)

Pitch them both. You'd have to over pitch by a lot more than that to have any serious issues.

    Fridgless lager

A fridge/freezer for temperature control is on the future list but it's just not in the cards right now but I'm really wanting to do a lager. I believe with a water bath, ice and placement I can get a fermenter down to the mid 40s low 50s for fermentation, the real challenge is going to be...

    S/S pressure growler questions.

or go with the Soda bottles and one of these http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0064OKADS/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 Just blow into the top really really hard and you won't even have to by all that priming sugar.

Does your LHBS acknowledge your custom?

SLC and a brew shop is pretentious. Gee I wonder which one that is. I almost exclusively use the newest of the 3 shops in SLC (who moved across the street FYI) coming from outside Park City I'm pretty sure it's the closest and they've always treated me well. I don't go in often enough that...

    Dogs

We have some Ruffwear boot for our dog. He's not a huge fan but will tolerate them for a time. His biggest issue is that they "buckle" right at his dewclaws and it gets irritated. Musher's wax works much better for us for snow and salt. I don't know if it would help with heat though.

    Smacked the packs prematurely...

You'll want the yeast as close to the wort temperature as possible at pitching time. So room temp is probably your best bet.

Using my fridge to cool a vanity

I think he wants to put the kegs in the vanity and keep it all cold from the external fridge. I suspect it would work for a while but probably kill the compressor on the fridge before too long. It would probably have to run 24/7 to keep that much more space refrigerated and would eventually...

    HELP! No carboy stopper!

Most hardware stores also carry 1 inch vinyl tubing that would fit in the neck of the carboy as a blow off tube.

Has anyone BIAB's a Brooklyn Beer Shop Mix?

I did one of the BBS recipes out of their book as BIAB. I wish I would have done it no sparge but overall it was just fine to do it as BIAB instead of the oatmeal style as the BBS instructions suggest.

    Building in-wall Draft System

You're going to want to cool the lines somehow. Fans and airflow is enough for some distance but at some point you'll need something more active like a water or glycol loop. I've been considering something similar (unfinished basement space to kitchen) and look forward to seeing how you decide...

    Moving Kegs To Room Temp

I'd pick up a big rope handle tub and do a water bath/swamp cooler If your ambient temp is less than 70 it should be easy to keep it down into your ideal ferment range.
