Toasted Coconut for a Pina Colada IPA

How did this turn out? I just tried Belching Beaver's Pina Colada IPA last week, and I have been thinking about taking a crack at a recipe.

    Lemon Drop

I would use Magnum for bittering. 1 oz at 10 min, 2oz at 0 min, 1 oz dryhop.

    LARGE IDIOT HERE... Advise please

You're fine. Relax. If the lid was pressed down on to the bucket, there is no way the cleaner could have found its way into the beer.

Anyone try the double sunshine clone recipe from BYO?

Braufessor, can you recommend a water profile to try with the Double Sunshine recipe? I have been following your Northeast IPA thread and have learned a lot. Thanks.

Decided to make my single tier brew stand...

Gotcha. I am building a similar single tier out of channel strut, since I don't have access to welding equipment. What made you choose a plate chiller vs. counter flow? Chiller choice is the last big detail I need to iron out.

Decided to make my single tier brew stand...

Why valves on both sides of the pumps? My understanding is that valves should only restrict the outflow of the pumps.

Should I pitch this yeast? Stir plate explosion.

I would pitch it. I have had starters blow the foil cover off of my flask before and used with no issues. If it has enough pressure to blow out the foam stopper, I would wager positive pressure is going to keep the nasties out.

    All Centennial IPA

I agree on the small scale mentality, however it is just a few pounds of grain to scale up to a full 5 gallon batch, with time investment being pretty much equal. I am OK with spending an extra $5 to end up with double the finished beer. That being said, I am starting with hop varieties...

    All Centennial IPA

The c-40 would have made it very similar to many of the Two-Hearted Clones I've seen floating around. Your recipe should be a good starting place, maybe to see how the hop schedule works for your bitterness and aroma preferences and tweak from there. I am planning on doing a number of single...

    bulk hops, what to buy?

I like Millenium for bittering, but Magnum is nice too. I just picked up 1# of Nugget, so I will be using them in some upcoming brews...I make a lot of IPA's so I use centennial, simcoe, and CTZ quite a bit.

Need help locating a sealing washer for mash tun.

Home Depot sells larger stainless washers as part of their "build a bolt" kit. It works for my mash tun (standard 10gal rubbermaid round cooler). I use the nuts for weighing down hop bags.. Edit: I see you said sealing washer...I used the silicone washer that came with cooler.

Homebrew supply shop in State College?

I am fairly sure that they are out of business. I have lived in SC for years, and am Allen St. frequently, today matter of fact, and am unaware of this place existing since I've been brewing.

GigaYeast GY054 - Vermont Ale Yeast

This seems to be a new product from a new company...they allude to it being the Conan strain. Does anyone have experience with it?

    Help with STC-1000 wiring!

yep, totally didn't pick up on the white wire comment for hot power...my bad. I would say you might have a bad controller.

    Help with STC-1000 wiring!

Your wiring is messed up if that is your picture...Your outlet is not getting any power from the unit. Move the hot wire from the cool relay of the controller to the hot side of the outlet, assuming you didn't break the tab both outlets will kick on at the same time. Take the white neutral off...

    2013 Hop garden photo thread

That was my thought as well. I am just going to keep an eye on them as the season progresses to see what becomes of them...maybe I'll dry hop a gallon of pale ale with them as an experiment.

    2013 Hop garden photo thread

I was at my grandparents house in PA this weekend and noticed this vine growing around an old boat. My grandfather used to make wine, but not beer to my knowledge. This is just a small section of a 20x20 foot area completely covered with the stuff...I thought it may be some variety of hops...
