My HopStopper & Blichmann HopBlocker Upgrade

Interesting results after first use. First surprise: as the boil increased, the basket had a tendency to float up and bob and sink back . I will be adding some clips on the top of the keg rim to anchor. This really shows the turbulence that was going up through the hops. At the end of the day...

My HopStopper & Blichmann HopBlocker Upgrade

Thanks for all the great ideas posted. Here is my version using a flour sifter for the base, a cake / pie ring for the top and the McMaster 37% screen. The one twist is I installed the flour sifter upside down. In theory because of the deep dish effect, it should channel the air bubbles up...

Carboy/Corny/Keggle Cleaning Made Easy (long & photo intense)

Great post / thread! I work for Electrolux and can get my hands on a D/W in many states of repair. Most tubs for a D/W are poly plastic- easy to cut and modify. Did anyone actually consider cutting the top section off a D/W, replacing the door with a sheet of plexi or something and going from...

drip tray 3" cut out no drain

Has anyone found a source for these in plastic? Stainless is terrific but I can't shell out another major expense for my kegerator- the wife will shoot me dead.

    CPC Disconnect O-Ring

I have also been struggling with this problem. I finally got in touch with an engineer at Colder who makes the parts that are sold through CPC. After she asked me some tech questions, it appears I have the wrong couplers which are not polysulfone. She seems to think that these cannot handle...

    Plastic quick connects from CPC

Has anyone used the quick connects from CPC [Colder Products Company] . The problem I have been having has been deformed leaking O rings but after contacting the manufacture it seems I have the wrong parts which are not rated at boiling for extended time. These are the same as the ones at...

    15.5 gal keg for fermenter

I just picked up a ½ keg from an auction and will turn it into my primary fermentor. I have been reading a ton of good stuff posted on transfers etc. Has anyone installed a ball valve on the bottom of the keg? MY thought is if this is large enough, but still shielded by the bottom ring, it...

Leftover meringue in the boil kettle?

Yes this was the first time using a whirlpool / pump set up. I used to just gravity drain through a reverse chiller straight into the fermenter. I must say this stuff was really stiff like Cool Whip- you could almost stand a spoon up in it.

Leftover meringue in the boil kettle?

Okay this was my first all grain on the new Brutus I built. Also the ingredients / cracked grain from a new supplier. At the end of the whirlpool / chill down after I had pumped the brew into the fermentor there was this thick, whip cream consistency stuff left. And a lot of it. In all my...

Recommendation for fermentation fridge heat source

I set up an Auberins controller to a smaller top mount refrigerator for my fermentation fridge. The controller can turn the fridge on and off and also a 100-300 watt heart source. I bought a 100 watt ceramic heat bulb used in reptile cages to do this, but after a quick test it seems that this...

Part needed for a tower/faucet setup

I am about where you are on installation. I purchased a 3 tap s-s tower with the s-s Perlick valves complete with attached hoses. (Great price from Amazon to The Beverage Factory.) The unit only comes with mounting screws and a rubber gasket. They are assuming this will be mounted to a...

    Cleaning Corny kegs?

Great info- thanks for compiling this. One question I didn’t see referenced. I just bought 4 cleaned used kegs. The black rubber tops and bottoms turn your hands (and anything else they touch) black. Also there seems to be some minor cracks in the rubber probably due to age. Any tips on...

    Silicone or thermoplastic tubing? Preferences?

I am looking at Norprene hot food & beverage tubing A-60-F for my new Brutus 10. It's good from -60 to 275 and can be steamed cleaned. Check it out at www.usplastic.com

    Auberin controller programing

From the factory settings I need to change the outy = 4, Hy =5. The manual also says to change the SV= 200. What I really want is on brew day to set my mash temperature manually without reprogramming the codes. Let’s say start out at 138 degrees then ramp up to 150 for an hour. Nothing...

    Auberin controller programing

Can anyone help with programming for Auberin controllers. I have a SYL-2362A2 wired for 24 v to control a 24 v natural gas valve that will be doing mash temperatures. I have the manual but still seems a bit complicated due to the pass codes required to change the parameters.

AG Brewers in Charlotte, NC - Water Questions

I just moved to Cornelius and would be interested in the same info. Moving from Pittsburgh where the water was mostly hard and the chemistry changed all over the place depending on rainfall and time of year (river supply / steel mill residue) the water here seems just fine. I wonder if my water...

Brutus 10 / NG valve question

Starting my own Brutus and picked up 2 used NG heater gas valves of the common type. Thought crossed my mind for the installation: do these need to be mounted horizontally or can they be mounted vertically and operate? The vertical mount would work better due to clearance. I know many have...
