    American IPA HIGHPA-Extra IPA

This brew came out just about perfect! Missed target OG by a little, but at 6.8% I'm not too concerned! Great bitterness and mouthfeel. Lots of grassy notes in the aroma. Left in orinary 21 days, then transferred to secondary and dry hopped for a further 7 days. Carbonated to 2.5 3.75lbs...

    Anyone tried 'sous vide brewing'?

Might be a strange one, but this has crossed my mind a few times now and thought I'd see if anyone else has had a similar thought or tried it. If you're not familiar, sous vide('under vacuum') is a method of cookery where you vaccume seal food in a bag and cook the food in a water bath...

How much hops for an IIPA?

Hey guys, just a quick hop related question. I'm looking to brew my first IIPA, recently got a hold of 'Brewing classic styles' and was using that as a starter recipe, changing the hops to my personal preference. My problem is, have been browsing a heap of recipes online and the majority of them...

    Is this an infection?

If it is, it's two from two and I'm not impressed. Only 5 days into fermentation, and it's a Berliner weisse. Any clues?

Infected strong ale turns sour ale experiment

Recently brewed a strong ale and she got infected. Took my chances and bottled most of it, but reserved around 1/2 a gallon, in an attempt to create some kind of rogue sour ale of sorts. I added some cherries, port, vanilla and cinnamon to the infected beer and have left it to do its thing...

    Barrel ageing

Hey guys, I'm looking at getting a small wine barrel to age some beer in. I haven't decided on a recipe yet, but I'm gonna go with a porter. I've been looking through the smoke/ wood aged recipes on HBT but can't seem to find any recipes that are actually using a barrel. My questions are...

    What did I just brew?

So, I just cracked one of my latest brews, and it wasn't quite what I expected... The recipe was supposed to be for a golden ale(more common here in Aus then over in the states I think) and after opening, the colour was definetly not what I was hoping for, I'd say its somewhere between an amber...

    Sessionable Extra hoppy 'Hopscotch' IPA

Hey guys, this one just became available to drink and am stoked on how it turned out! So much so, I thought I'd share(my first time), any feedback is welcome. This brew has really nice bitterness and is a bit sweeter then your average IPA, but I think that pairs nicely with the lower...

Low ABV due to over filling fermenter?

Hey guys, I've brewed a few partial mashes thus far and they all seem to have low ABV. I'm not too fussed, but I would like to know where I'm going wrong and I have a feeling I'm over filling my fermenter, could this cause low ABV and what's a good way to calculate how much to fill my fermenter...

    Recycling stout

Hey guys, I've got a batch of chocolate stout I brewed about 6 weeks ago and I want to turn it into a cherry chocolate stout. The beer itself is ok, but I want to brew the recipe again and change a few things next time. Anyway, just wondering, with beer that's already bottled, whats the...

    Bottle conditioning + Sweetness

Hey guys, Just curious about bottle conditioning and what it does to sweet flavors in beer. Are sweet flavors more likely to intensify or mellow out with age? Or is it more complicated then that, is it dependent on the type of sugar or where its sourced i.e dextrose, honey, fruit etc...
