First All grain batch, too much grain in fermentor?

Was also wondering, I use a bazooka filter and I realized the holes are not that small (it's small but, the starch and very fine particles can go through). Should I use something else? Does the Grain bed really filter all these when you sparge correctly?

First All grain batch, too much grain in fermentor?

Thanks, glad to know it will settle out cause it was really crowded of grain and very small particles almost like flour. (I would have been surprised if it didn't but I wanted to make sure). Yeah I should have dumped the water back in my mash tun, vorlauf and start again. But it was my first...

First All grain batch, too much grain in fermentor?

I made my first all grain batch and it went ok. I had a stuck sparge so I had to remove the thick grain puch around my bazooka screen and It got stuck a few time (I think I opened the valve way to high but that's another story). Now the beer is in the fermentor and I took a sample to check...

    Brewing outside

Yeah sound like a plan. Thanks guys :) I'll have to make some testing. My IC prevents 100% coverage but I guess that's not that bad.

    Brewing outside

I was wondering how do you (if you do) protect your wort when you brew outside. Specially when you're cooling the wort. Flies could drop inside (That's sweet heh) along many other dirty things. I cannot put a lit on top since I have a immersion chiller that prevent the lit from sitting on it...

    8.45GAL Kettle for 6GAL batch?

Thank for the help guys. I think I'll finally buy a 13.75GAL kettle since the price difference won't be so different because of all the other parts (valve, prob etc). This way I'll be ready for 10GAL batches whenever I want :)

    8.45GAL Kettle for 6GAL batch?

I make 6GAL (23L) batches. I'm about to buy a 8.45GAL(32L) SS kettle (2 holes, 1 for probe, 1 valve) for 32$ (about 50$ with the probe and valve). Would that be enough for the batch I make? Any Pros and cons?

    Kettle size?

Yeah that's why I though Tri-ply could be a good option.

    Kettle size?

So you recommend tri-ply? I think heat distribution is better and heat faster than plain SS. Here's what my LHBS carry. I think he has pretty fair prices. The 60QT SS is cheap and there's quite a jump for the tri-ply thus my previous question :) I will take the 52QT Coolman Xtreme for my...

    Kettle size?

This won't hurt if I do half a batch? And what do you think of tri-ply for kettle or only plain SS?

    Kettle size?

Currently planning to move soon to AG. I currently do 6 GAL batches, but plan to be able to also make 10 GAL batches. So to make a 10 GAL batch I should get a 40+ QT kettle. Most likely 52QT because my LHBS have these. But will the bigger kettle size harm when I do 6 GAL batches? Like loss of...

    Propane burner

How much batch do you make with a tank of propane?

    Propane burner

So I'm looking to get out of the house with a propane burner so I can do full boil (Glass stove top doesn't support the weight). I currently do 6.07GAL batches. I might push it to 10GAL in the future so I could fill 2 keg. I searched a lot on the internet and I'm still puzzled on what to buy...

When do you declare lag time is done and fermentation has begun?

Cool thanks guys. So no "absolute" answer, but yeah I'll keep checking for a tiny krausen ring like I've been doing since I started.

    Yeast question

Your beer will be just fine. Studies have shown that if you don't re-hydrate dry yeast half the cell will die, which can lead to off flavors, under attenuation etc. Some people never re-hydrate and say that their beer is perfect. Personally I re-hydrate. Best practice is to re-hydrate the yeast.

When do you declare lag time is done and fermentation has begun?

I'd like to know when can you declare the lag time is done and fermentation has begun? Last brew I threw a good cell count, oxygenated with my new O2 with .5 micro stone and pitched at 19c (66f) and kept at 19 the whole time with my new fridge and stc-1000 controller. I ferment in a plastic...

    Dry yeast pack count question

Do I pitch the whole thing? Yeast + water? Or should I try to decant the water?

    Dry yeast pack count question

It's my first time using dry yeast and I'd like to know how much pack do I need for my brew. It's an american IPA 1.064 OG, 6 GAL and I will use Safale US-05. Using a calculator online it says 1.3 pack, not sure how valid it is. Should I use 1 or 2?

Questions regarding o2 regulator I'm about to buy

I'm about to buy this : http://www.ebay.com/itm/130892097368 Got tired of shaking the carboy! (My back hurts after that...) I was wondering, what's the good way to sanitize and store this item? Should I remove every part and sanitize them or can I just leave the whole thing together and...
