How many batches have you actually poured?

I've had a few gluten free experimental beers that were way off, but seeing how mistakes(and great beers for that matter) change over time is part of what I like about the hobby. I can't imagine dumping for taste, at least without giving it a few years to mature. The one batch I did dump was a...

    Homebrew in the Shower

One of the most interesting experiences I had as an exchange student in Germany revolved around shower beer. After practice for the university ultimate frisbee team, we hit the showers and there'd be a keg of beer in there as a time for socializing and team building. It was a great mix, hot...

You know you're a home brewer when?

When you bottle 15 gallons at a friends house, it takes 4 hours with setup and cleanup, and as you're leaving the host's wife tells one of the other brewers to wish his wife a happy birthday.

You should check out the gluten free forum and/or repost over there. Brown rice syrup is gluten free so there is a lot of experience with it over there.

    GF brewing

It really depends on the person and your cleaning methods. Even amongst celiacs (who are allergic to gluten) there is a wide variation. My wife and her sister are both celiacs and can eat at the same place and have much different experiences. My wife might be fine because all the ingredients...

Steeping Grains in a Second Pot, Adding Late in Main Boil

Thanks for the replies so far. I was basically planning to follow the method fatnoah describes. I'm not too worried about extra cleaning and equipment since that can be prepped and handled outside of my actual brew time. It's the time from turning on my burner to pitching yeast that I was...

Steeping Grains in a Second Pot, Adding Late in Main Boil

Normally, when an extract recipe calls for steeping grains, I follow the typical process of bringing water in my brew kettle up to 150-160, add the grains, and hold the temp for 30 minutes. Then I remove the grains, sparge, and bring the wort to a boil. Then I add 1/2 my extract and proceed...

What I did for beer today

Received my centennial rhizomes from northwesthops. They sent 6 even though the starter kit was only supposed to have five. They were all big, but one was a monster. I am very pleased. I planted them in a large planter and will transplant in a few weeks.

What I did for beer today

Bottled 10 gallons: 2 gluten free half batches for SWMBO (a blonde and a honey ale) and a dry Irish Stout for me. I had to "empty" a few bottles of my last batch to have enough bottles tonight. Tough job!

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewed two gluten free test batches tonight, 2.5 gallons each of a mild and a blonde. SWMBO is the one allergic to gluten so she will pick the one she likes best and that'll be the one I make in larger quantities. Or if neither suits her tastes, more test batches will come.
