    The Belmont Brewing Company is pretty sweet down by the Belmont Shore. And there is always Yard House right in downtown LB by the water. not a real big fan of those chain restaurants, but with 100+ beers on tap, you cant go wrong.

    Beermachine, any good?

    Yeah, we tried that and it just couldnt get a good seal after the first use. the CO2 worked good during the first batch but without a air tight seal on the 2nd batch, the C02 was pretty ineffective, we couldnt keep the pressure up, it just leaked right out. keep in mind this was about 4 yrs...

    Short brew, is secondary worth it?

    No need for a secondary with that kind of beer. i would leave it in primary for 1 more week and then bottle. should be decently carbd after 2 weeks in time for new years:drunk:

    Getting labels off of bottles

    i just soak in hot tap water for 30 mins, peel off the labels then use a steel sool scrubber lightly to take off the remaing glue and paper, quick, easy, and cheap

    Another Starter question

    for that OG, just a one step 500ml starter should be fine. no need to hop the wort either

    do you HAVE to remove labels?

    I just fill up the sink with hot tap water and soak about 12 at a time in there for about 30 mins-1hr, then the labels should just peel right off. then just use a steel scrubby pad and lightly scrub the bottles down to get the glue and left over paper off, works great

    I brewed a Bavarian Hefe almost 2 weeks ago. OG was 1.052. took a reading after 5 days and it was at 1.020. then took one 3 days ago and it was at 1.019, i shook up the pail to get some yeast back in suspension and yesterday it is still at 1.019 with the temp adjustment, so im assuming its done...

    How important is a starter?

    i would definetely not pass up a brew day and just use the vial, make sure you get a lot of O2 int he wort before pitching. if it doesnt start up within 2-3 days, i would pitch some dried yeast. then brew another batch on Sunday!!

    as long as your sure it reached the FG and is done fermenting, otherwise things could get messy

    Weizen Beer Question...

    I also have a wiezen in the primary right now, its been 7 days and i plan on bottling this weekend, probablly at 10 days. thats the great part about wiezens, you dont need to condition them which means you get to drink them sooner:rockin:

    Can I add cold water to lower to pitching temp?

    Not at all. although some will say to boil the water first to avoid contamination, i just throw a couple gallon jugs of bottled water in the freezer a few hrs before brewing.

    Dry Hopping with Pellets ?

    you'll want to wait for the wort to ferment before adding the pellets to dry hop, typically a week. i just toss them right in, i think it is close to impossible to contaminate your brew with hops.

    i dry hop in the primary when called for (but only b/c i dont have a secondary yet) and have turned out some great tasting beer:)
