    Am I over anxious?

I wouldn't start checking the FG until week 3. It looks good.

    thinking about starting AG brewing

It's unfortunate that all extract brewing is categorized as kits in a can or Mr beer kits. The main difference between me "extract brewer" and someone who does all grain is that i use 7-9 pounds of extract vs 12-15 pounds of base malt a AG brewer uses.

Batch #1 - Complete - Pics and my experience

How bad is your water ? I noticed empty water bottles on the table. Beer used to be made by cave men i doubt you boned anything up. I rigged up a filter setup i use for my water that works really well. Beats having to buy bottled.

The burner inside worried me too. Do you have a temp strip on your carboy to see what the fermentation temp is ? Controlling the temp is going to be key in the future. What i do with extract is pre mix some of it then add to the pot. Add a little less than half at the start then the rest at...

    Old liquid yeast question

Hi all Question i have a pack of Wyest that i didn't get around to using. My next couple of brews are using a different yeast. Its at 27% viable atm. I have been using the method of making a bigger starter than needed and storing the extra for future use. I only do this when i make a batch...

    great western malting products.

    Brewhardware Element Enclosure

My first ekettle i built i used the weld less lock nut with O ring setup. I worked fine but is more of a permeant solution . If your going to use a ripple style element you will not be able to mount is toward the bottom of the kettle. This is because it screws in vs being calmed in. With the TC...

    No more kits

As a AEB "Advanced extract brewer" myself. One thing you might want to do is take a look at process and get them locked down. There is a lot to learn and be improved with the kits. The key to great beer what ever your process is , is consistency. Kits in some part can reduce the consistency...

    Should I Dump It Out..?

All the notes will take time to meld together when bottled. If I'm not mistaken a porter gets better if let to condition awhile. I'd bottle it

    All grain or Extract

There are a lot of unseen and untold cost to AG. The only difference in cost is the base malts be is grain or extract. I can make a few different batches of beer from extract at $25 with yeast. I think because AG is a more involved process people automatically think it's better . In my club I've...

    Best extract kits??

Its not about kits anymore. Now big companies pay some one to sit there and pump out kits day after day and where house them. This is not the freshest way to do things. It would be nice to think we place an order and someone go's and fills that order. That "LHBS service" just doesn't happen With...

    120V or 240V??

Since you have a burner why not put a triclover fitting in ? That way your not married to plugging it in and can cap it off and use your burner. I made my kettle this way so i can go over to a friends house and brew outside.

    Yeast havesting worked !

So about 4 moths ago i read an article on HBT about yeast harvesting . Its not yeast washing but making a little bit bigger starter and saving the extra for later. 4 months later i brewed a batch using the extra "made a starter of course" and it worked like a charm. Full fermentation and a jar...

Anybody try Northern Brewers new LME?

Im in the same boat. There is no telling what kind of fermentability it has "goes for most of the mixed extracts on the market". Ive had my fill of using the mixed extracts and not getting any kind of consistency . Switched over to using pure type base malt extracts and letting the steeping...

    120V or 240V??

Your going to have a tough time to find someone that would weld zinc. Not to mention welding zinc to stainless wouldn't work.
