    What about an E-STOP button?

I've seen a number of builds that use one posted here. Even though you would / should be plugging into a GFCI plug or circuit, I wouldn't solely rely on that.

    Cloning Ayinger Ur-Weisse

My googling has failed to find a clone of this beer, so I would like to give it a shot myself. I have a very basic idea of what might be going into it, but wondering a few things about yeast choice, fermentation temp, pitch rate, and mash schedule. It's a dunkelweiss, so I was thinking a...

    Beer Smith or Beer Friend??

There are a number of features of BS that are not available on brewersfriend. Equipment profile and automatic mash, sparge, boil volume calculations being the most glaring. Brewersfriend has the advantage of being a website so it is potentially available anywhere with internet access, but...

    Oysters!

It exists! Which is why I suggested it earlier ha http://www.yardsbrewing.com/ales/signature-ales/love-stout I've never personally had it, which I should since I live in Philly, but there are decent reviews on beeradvocate.com

    Oysters!

Time to make a Yards Love Stout clone!

    BeerBug on Kickstarter

Thats the one thing I dont know or see how he intends to address. Every video I have seen shows a pretty "quiet" fermentation where blowoffs are not happening. It seems more useful to use after the first few days of violent fermentation, when you would have to take hydro readings to confirm...

    First time AG

For your first AG brew, I would recommend a simpler recipe, maybe a SMaSH just to get the process down. You will want to dial in your system and process, figure out your efficiency etc...

    Finings & Taste Question..

Finings will generally have no impact on taste. If you are asking for diagnosis on what you are describing as an unexpected bitterness, we will need some more details on the recipe, and your fermentation schedule and temps

    BeerBug on Kickstarter

I used the search before posting, I swear to lord baby jesus I did, and did not find a thread about this yet. BeerBug has launched a Kickstarter campaign: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/parasitx/the-beerbugtm-digital-hydrometer If you aren't familiar with this, it is a cool product...

Fly Sparge Questions After First AG Brew Day

The underlying reason for those suggestions is because you don't want to disrupt the grain bed and cause "channeling". Imagine you have a tub full of sand, and you dump a bucket of water into it... if you dump that bucket to quickly, the water will drill through the sand and go straight through...

I'm ready to enter your magical world

The stickies in the beginner forum are a great place to start. Also check out howtobrew.com which is an online (albeit slightly outdated) copy of a book written by a respected member of the homebrewing community. Further, you can check out The Complete Joy of Homebrewing by Charlie Papazian

    No bubbling?

Bubbling != fermentation. The only way to check is by seeing if your SG has dropped. It is possible that CO2 is escaping your fermentation vessel somewhere other than through your airlock, hence no bubbling.

    Why u no carb beer????

Silly question - but do you have it going through a 3 way manifold, or separate guages for each keg? What temp are the kegs sitting at?

My first batch two day progression

Pitching a bit hot would make fermentation go a bit faster - not slower. Can you clarify what you mean here? Did you throw corn sugar into your brew? The reason you didn't see bubbles in your airlock is likely because you don't have a good seal. The CO2 is going to escape your...

    Son of... Thermostat Question

You need a thermostat, you could use a thermometer to monitor temps to make sure the chamber is doing what it is supposed to, but the thermostat will be required to actually kick the CPU fan on and off. The ones linked by GLW are fine, but you can just get a cheapo (non-programmable) thermostat...

    IBU confusion with beer kit

Yooper talked to him in person and has corrected this in a few threads, like this one.

    Brew Belt needed?

I think that temp is fine for now - might need a brew belt or a space heater in a couple weeks, however. If you do want to pick one up, Barry's has them up in North Philly... just uh... go when it's nice and well lit outside.

    Beersmith Efficiency Calculations

There are 2 types of efficiency - mash efficiency, and brewhouse efficiency. They are calcualted the same way, just at different parts of the brewing process. BS only allows you to define and track 1 of these - brewhouse efficiency. With any grain bill, there is a maximum amount of gravity...

    Best burner for ~ $60

I have the SP10, works great. I don't think you'll be able to find a propane burner - even the cheaper ones - that won't boil 6.5-7.5 gallons of wort. The difference might be build quality and endurance. The $150 Blichmann burner made of stainless steel will last forever, and you can beat the...
