    Screwed Up!

Went to bed last night with a Scottish Ale in the fermenter and 68 degrees on its thermometer...Since it was in an unheated area of the house, I put my fermheater on, and set my controller to come on at 65 and off at 68. Or at least I thought I did. 6:30 this A.M. (before coffee) I checked it...

    Fermentation cooler

So been checking out designs for a ferm chiller box, It seems most people put the ice chamber at the bottom. Wouldn't it make more sense to put it at the top since cold air sinks or am I missing something?

Of Clumsiness and Really Excellent Service

So last Sunday I was testing my panel and HLT...worked great..170 degrees in about 25 minutes. I was having a good day until I tripped on the RTD sensor cord and pulled it out of the 3 prong plug. Bummer right? Got on the ol' email to Auber Ins. with my tale of woe...and actually got a reply...

    It works!

Just finished my simplified control panel...plugged it in to my spa panel and, wonder of wonders it works...and no smoke. The e-stop works like a charm and snaps everything off in milliseconds. So cool. Now all I need to do is hole my kettle and install the element and build a cart to put...

    Wiring DPST 240 Volt Switch

About to connect DPST 240 v Switch as per P-J's schematic but I'm a bit confused as to the hook ups...Not sure how the numbers on the back of the switch correspond to the schematic. I'm assuming the top connections are 1 and 4 as shown in the schematic and that would leave the bottom connections...

    Soldering resistors for P-J's E-stop

Building P-J's simple HLT setup...Got all my parts...Holes cut in my box and now I'm ready to connect things. So whats the best way to connect the two inline resistors for the E-stop. Twist the stranded wire on the resistor wire and solder? Crimp connectors? Should there be standed wire...

    P-J's simple setup

Ok, I've ordered most of the parts for the simple controller set up for my HLT. My question. Since I'm dealing with a 30 amp 240 volt circuit with incoming power on 10 ga. wire to the terminal strips, Should I continue with 10 ga. wire throughout the build? Rich

    Spa panel

Would this spa panel be suitable plugged into a 3 wire dryer outlet and going to a switched 220 volt 5500 watt heating element in my HLT...

    Electric HLT

I'm planning on constructing an HLT similar to the one described in www.electricbrewery.com Not the full meal deal, just the HLT. Since I already brew in the laundry room, Ill be plugging it into the dryer recepticle. Any ideas on controlling the 220 heater? I'm even thinking of wiring in...
