Fermentation can take 24 to 72 hrs to show visible signs.

I have not made a starter, I have all the tools to make a stir-plate but have not brought myself to make it because of the cutting and slicing of the electrical cord, I hope to make one soon though. I do hydrate the dry yeast when I use it, I just find that when using the rehydrated dry yeast...

    Dropped Smack Pack in Wort

I just got done brewing a weird hodgepodge recipe and I usually use dry yeast, but I had a smack pack in the fridge for a while and decided to use it. I forgot that I have to only cut one corner and I cut across into the pack, needless to say the smack pack popped out at the end and...

    Berries in the boil

Thanks to all for your responses very informative and insightful, esp HopJuicer and Raedon. As far as how many lbs. I got, I have about 4 dry and will pick about 4-5 I think. I would want to kill the yeast before I racked beer on them, but in reading the responses I think I will throw the...

So I have a bunch of berries I dried out last year and some that are fresh this year on the vine. I have a bunch of stray grains with the mains being wheat and two row so I can make a decent beer coulped with this German Wheat yeast. I have never done fruit before however and am wondering if I...

    Hallertau Hops differences etc.

So I'm at the brewstore today and I'm trying to get some ingredients and usually just get the Hallertau Leaf Hops from NB for my batches, but I didn't want to order online and this shop has all the grains I need. I forgot they don't carry Hallertau Leaf Hops. Well upon this transaction when...

    Probably Paranoid but...

In my latest batch which a sanitized bung did fall in, I have noticed that after the hops have fallen down there are what looks like two black hop leaves stuck to the side of the fermenter, has anyone experienced this before? I do not think it is mold or any impurity because I have seen it...

G#D Damnit!!! Rubber Stopper Fell in Carboy

So I just finished brewing for five hours, pitched the yeast and the ONLY carboy stopper I had, Universal (hmm), fell in the carboy as I attempted to pull it out by the airlock as it fell beyond where bungs should fall. Has this ever happened to anyone? I imagine the beer should be fine as the...

Active Fermentation almost two weeks in...

Surprisingly no, I just have to open the cranium a bit and allow the elixir of free-thought to enter... then, the patient shall be open to such things as wild yeast and 'new' ways of brewing beer. o-ouch. bing-zip

Revvy I have taken readings, and ended up just bottling the beer without taking a reading in between. But did take one at the end. Guess what? It was spot on, just like before. That means my projected to actual is well... spot-on. Thats one reason I don't take readings like that, and did...

British Ale & other recipe questions

It tastes great. Very heavy on the alcohol and sweet, lightly malty with a hint of citrus. Very clean and crisp.

Thanks revvy, and no I do not think its a vast conspiracy and I like the science behind it. Perhaps I shall attempt to harvest a pair of testicles next time around and take some readings premature to bottling. Godspeed.
