This christmas we'll be visiting my sister in law in portland, we're contemplating a day trip out to the Rogue brewery. Their website says they offer daily tours around 4 PM. Has anyone been out there? Is it worth a 4-5 hour round trip drive?
Anyone visited Rogue?

I've been to their tap house, and it was worth the trip.
Quite frankly I'd go to the Rogue Ales Public House in Portland. The Rogue Brewery is nice, but nothing much different. http://www.guestontap.com/map.shtml There a dozen breweries in and around Portland that give tours.
Of course, you could have lunch at Golden Valley in McMinneville, tour Rogue for dinner and finish the evening at Pelican Brewpub in Pacific City.

I second that! The only thing cool about visiting the brewery in Newport, is the cool gift shop. Other then that you can skip the long drive and check out mutiple brewery tours in just one day here in Portland.
Plus you can check out the Rogue Public house and Distillery here in Downtown Portland, and then walk up the street (5 minute walk) and check out the Bridgeport Brewery.
Don't get me wrong, Rogue is cool. But unless you are taking a day trip to the beach, plan on stopping at Pelican like Dave's post said, and maybe hitting up some casino's............ it's not worth the drive.

I was there in '96, but you can always go to the aquarium nearby where Willy used to live.
There is a lot to do and see at the Beach if you haven't been... But, if your sole purpose is to drive there, tour, then drive back... don't go. The Portland area has so many breweries that you can tour and have just a good, often times better beer. I'd make sure to check out Upright brewery and tasting room, McMenamins Roadhouse, and the Green Dragon/Buckman Brewery (owned by rogue) if you are looking for breweries with good viewing pleasure. If you are looking for great tap rooms Bailey's taproom or Apex are the best. But, there are so many microbreweries (laurelwood, breakside, coalition, etc) and small versions of bigger breweries (deschutes, rogue, full sail) and that is just a small list.
