Historical Beer: Kentucky Common "Kiss Yer Cousin" Rye Kentucky Common Ale

Brewed this with the six row and WLP SF lager yeast and just got carbed enough today to taste it. Very good, not much different than the 2 row version. Seems to be a great beer no matter what.

What was the best beer you ever brewed?

If I had to pick one, probably the Kentucky common recipe in the HBT recipe bank. It helped that it was one of the first beers I kegged. Such a different interesting delicious beer. Its the only beer recipe I have brewed more than twice.

Historical Beer: Kentucky Common "Kiss Yer Cousin" Rye Kentucky Common Ale

Revy, Since I'm a little of a history buff this beer fascinates me. Did a little research on the internet today while ordering grain and such for this beer and I'm going to switch it up and use six row. From what I have read this was most likely the grain that was used at the time. What...

    Bottling with a Kolsch yeast

You shouldn't have any issues. Ive used the WLP 029 Kolsch a bunch of times. Some people advocate sucking up a little yeast trub with your bottling wand when you transfer to your bottling bucket after a long cold crash/lager. Ive done it both ways and it has carbed fine . The yeast are still...

    Wood-Aged Beer Pirate Strong Ale

Thanks to the OP for this recipe. Made this about a month and a half or so ago and just pulled the first glasses off the keg. Very tasty. Even just one vanilla bean gives a very strong vanilla flavor. Definitely will be a repeat brew. SWMBO digs it as well.

    Bacon Bourbon

There is a seafood house we frequent that does a bacon bourbon infused Manhattan. I get one every time. Another place around the corner does bacon vodka bloody marys, basically they soak bacon in the vodka in a big container for about three days. Very good. Moral of the story- everything is...

    Changes?

The recipes are a mess right now. Supposedly they are going to organize them according to style guidelines. I am going to reserve judgement until it is finished. Like a lot of us I fear change though.

    Four Reasons you Shouldn't Homebrew

That was pretty good. It is very much the male equivalent to a shoe addiction. Between brewing/ fishing / hunting/ cars I have spent so much freakin money! Always need one more thing......

    Fishing!

The kid definitely feeds off his pops emotions. I could walk the bank of a pond with a cold beer and catch those 12-14" bass all day long. If you think that is me jazzed on fishing you should see me when I pull in a 25lb salmon or 6 foot sturgeon.

    Fishing!

Today at the pond where my grandpa lives. My 2 y/o gets jazzed when a fish is caught. Only had about 20 minutes to make a few casts and hooked two.

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

Was given a 22 of Lagunitas Bitter Oats. Was terrible. Tried to give the rest to my buddies. After a sip each they handed it back. Waaaay to bitter, even for an IPA guy like me. One of maybe five commercial beers in my life I've poured out.

    Fishing!

a multi day trip for some tuna is on my bucket list for sure. Bluefin and yellowfin specifically. San Diego does seem like the spot. I would love to go rockfishing down south too, see the different variety of fish. Mostly blacks, blues and olives up here with an occasional vermillion.

Gonna have a baby, is my life over

Best thing I ever did was have two awesome little boys! Life will change but for the better. FYI of the hobbies I had to give up brewing was not one of them. Brewing at least keeps me at the house-which SWMBO approves of. Hope it is the same for you. Congrats!
