So here's my dilemma.... brewed a ToD clone last May. Gravity has been right around 1.007 since September. It's nice and sour from ECY01 and dregs from one bottle of ToD.
While it's enjoyable, I think it's missing those "Black Tuesday" bourbon/oak notes. I have 1 oz of French Oak cubes saved...
i'm glad i found this thread b/c i'm having similar experiences. for reference i use a copper convoluted CFC from morebeer. the CFC is mounted vertically with the wort being pumped upwards via march pump. water flowing downwards at temperatures as low as 45F.
i'm starting to believe these...
Looking for some advice from anyone who reuses oak cubes in wild beers. I'm getting ready to bottle a sour brown that used the dregs of La Roja and Consecration and one ounce of medium french oak cubes. I was thinking about reserving 1/2 cup of the finished beer in a mason jar to keep the cubes...
Check the link... day_trippr provides a the part number from mcmaster.
Question day_trippr: Does the gasket actually create an airtight seal? Also, how did you attach the cut edges?
Looks promising!
Just like you, I never really had the issue with the stainless steel braid i used before this! I switched to the false bottom b/c I intend to use a pump in the near future. A false bottom seemed like a better option.
To answer your question, I haven't regulated the flow on the ball valve...
yeah the space around the false bottom seem to be the culprit. i figured the weight of the grain would be sufficient, but it's not doing the trick. i feel like there has to be something i can add to keep the cooler flush with the bottom. Something heavy.... I've tried cutting a piece of tubing...
I'm having some problems with my current mash tun. I use a 10 gallon home depot cooler with a false bottom (pictured below). The issue is no matter how much I vorlauf, I can't keep big chunks of grain out of my runnings. I've resorted to using a very finely meshed strainer to catch the grain...
Bringing my blog back from a LOOOOOOOONG break. lots of real-life stuff recently, but looking to focus on writing in the near future.
