    Spiced Cranberry Wine?

I really liked this. It was quite tart and dry. I would definitely make again. We made Gluhwein with it, which was fantastic. I THINK I have one more bottle, but I'm not sure.

Double IPA Out of this Galaxy IIPA

I really enjoyed this beer. It was surprisingly easy to drink given the high gravity and strong IBU's. I would not describe it as astringent at all. Had a freshly bitter, slightly citrusy flavor.

    Mash Water/Grain Ratio

Woke up with this on my mind, no idea why; I know that some recipes call for a 1.25 quart of water to 1 lb grain ratio in the mash, where others call for 1.5. Does it make a difference?

looking for input...on first try at brewing

Well, your recipe is definitely short on a few details... The short answer to your question is when the beer is done; typically, with a "generic" recipe, 2-3 weeks is long enough for primary fermentation to finish and the yeast to clean up off flavors. You need the priming sugar for bottling...

    John Wesley

This is clearly kicking a long dead horse, but I'm very interested to know if you had any luck with your search for a John Wesley beer. I'm a Methodist pastor currently working on my master's degree, and I have done some research into the brewing of beer in Church history. Earlier this year I...

Autumn Seasonal Beer Plaid Pumpkin Scottish Ale

I usually shoot for middle of whatever range. I ferment in my basement, which this time of year is in the mid 60's.

    Ministry and beer

One or two of you have asked for an update. Sorry it's overdue; as both a full time student and pastor, I'm not perusing HBT as much as I once did. I have been at this church for about 9.5 months. They know I drink beer, but I haven't mentioned I brew my own. Why? Honestly, because I want a...

    Ministry and beer

Out of curiosity, if those who have suggested using home brewing as a setting for Bible study or a metaphor for spiritual things, what specifically would you point out to discuss?

You know you're a home brewer when?

I called my wife "beer" instead of "dear" this morning.

The stupidest comment on your beer

Could be a good naming opportunity for your beer. Puppy Piss Pale? Bitter About It?

The stupidest comment on your beer

Oh yeah, we actually had a good conversation about beer, and she seemed genuinely interested. She told me her favorites are porters and IPS's because she liked beers that taste like chocolate and/or dirt. She was more interesting to talk to than the friend's boyfriend, who kept complaining...
