How can I convert any recipe to a session beer?

I'd play around with a brewing calculator. You'll be essentially cutting the recipe in half, then making small adjustments to keep the colour and IBUs in line with the original. If you're still nervous about watering the beer down there are adjuncts for that, but I'd try without those first...

    LHBS on Vancouver Island

I got in touch with the city water department, and they use UV and chlorine as needed. There are no chloramines involved. So I should be good to go there.

    LHBS on Vancouver Island

Thanks for that! I was planning to talk to brewers once I'm settled and ready to brew, I hope that they're accommodating. Lucky for me that there are a few to choose from. They might even share some hops too. I have family in Chilliwack, so they might be willing to run errands for me. I'll brew...

    Agreed, that's quite the drive.

    LHBS on Vancouver Island

Hello Brewers! I recently moved from Manitoba to Vancouver Island, and am surprised by the lack of LHBSs here. There are wine supply stores, and u-brews, but no lhbs. Are they hiding? I had thought that there would be quite a few brewers hiding on the Island, but I might be wrong. If you know...

Using US-05 for DNEIPA-should I do a starter or just rehydrate?

Well it’s hard to double the hops in a NEIPA, so the must just be talking about the 8%ABV. Looks good either way, enjoy!

Using US-05 for DNEIPA-should I do a starter or just rehydrate?

DNEIPA = Double North East IPA? If so, what part of it is being doubled?

Why my local brewery shut down

What's interesting is that the breweries are closing in their current form, but not gone really. One guy brews somewhere else, two are going to reload and try again, and one is just for sale in a good spot. The only one that won't be back, at the distillery, was never the primary focus anyway...

    Rye flaked or malt?

The other day I tried a side by side batch I made, one with flaked rye and the other with rye malt. I found the flaked one to have a thicker mouthfeel, and a raw spiciness. The malted one was a little smoother, both in taste and mouthfeel. No less spicy, just a little more well rounded. I'd...

    Two Day All Grain Session

There are lots of ways to break up a brew day. I'll build a recipe and mill grains up to a week before brewing. That way if you ever get some free time you're already ready to go. I also do no chill and have shorter boils because of it, usually only 30min. Pitching yeast the next day, or much...

    Malt Vinegar Process and Recipes

I've got two gallons that have been sitting for about a month. One is a Guinness clone at about 4% ABV, the other is a pale ale malt bill at about 6%. There is no mother forming yet, but the cupboard where they are definitely smells like vinegar. I sniff test them every couple of weeks, but I...

    Vienna/Northern Brewer/California Common SMaSH

I'm glad I read this. I couldn't find anyone who had brewed a common with BRY-97 before. Mine will be ready to bottle next week.

    Canadians. Metric or Imperial?

I'm glad that the only way that most of us are on the same page is by being all over the measuring map. I keep thinking about going all metric, but never quite do it. I should do it once as an experiment just like I would for a new hop or beer style. You never know until you try.

    Canadians. Metric or Imperial?

Hello fellow Canadians. I would like to know if most of you brew all in metric, imperial, or a mix of the two? Sometimes it gets a little weird measuring grams of hops for a X gallon brew, or how many 500ml bottles that brew will fill... Have any of you made the switch to metric and never...
