    Cleanup IPA - Recipe Critique

Thank you all very much for the input! After taking another look at it, I agree that the crystal malts are likely too high. I'm considering dropping them down to something along these lines: 61% Briess Pale Ale Malt 33% Maris Otter 3% Crystal 60 2% CaraPils 1% Crystal 120 Another...

    Cleanup IPA - Recipe Critique

I know what you're saying about the maris otter. It's not in there for complexity, it's in there because I have that much of it laying around that i'd like to clean up. I like the idea of the whirlpool. Thank you!

    Cleanup IPA - Recipe Critique

Hey folks! I'm doing a bit of homebrew housecleaning this weekend, and I'd like to gather some thoughts on a 'cleanup' recipe I'm throwing together: OG: 1.058 FG: 1.014 ABV: 5.7% SRM: 11 IBU: 56 Yeast: US-05 Volume: 5.5 Gallons 58.3% Briess Pale Ale Malt 31.2% Maris Otter...

Winter Seasonal Beer Great Lakes Christmas Ale Clone

When I made this last year, I added the honey at flameout. The ginger and cinnamon sticks were in for the entire boil. It turned out great, but the cinnamon does fade rather quickly. I may up it to three sticks this year.

    Glass carboy won't dry

+1 to this. This works great for me as well, except I don't rinse and sanitize again. I leave the StarSan in until brew day, swish it around right before transfer, drain the carboy, dump in the goods and away we go. I've read about StarSan becoming ineffective over time with exposure to...

Advice on first SMaSH APA MO Centennial

I quickly plugged your info into Ale Abacus while I'm here at work and that's what I came up with. (linked here) Each site / software seems to vary from others a bit, but as far as quick and dirty goes, AA works pretty well for me.

    Worst Infection - EVER!

You totally should have used the "Does my batch look infected?" title, but I supposed that would have made it more difficult to search for later on when I feel like barfing again. :drunk:

Advice on first SMaSH APA MO Centennial

I'm hitting 31 IBU @ 10%AA on the Tinseth formula. 20 IBU from the 10-minute addition and 11 from the 5-minute addition.

    Why Dry?

There's the magic words! I also use StarSan and do not dry.

Advice on first SMaSH APA MO Centennial

To me, the hopping schedule looks good. I think it will impart a very nice aroma and flavor without hitting any harsh bitterness. As far as mash temps: It's all subject to your personal tastes, of course. Are you looking for a drier beer? Drop it down to 149! Personally, I'd probably go with...

    What are you drinking from..

My wife recently picked up a couple of these for me: Unbreakable, provides a little insulation, etc. Great for parties, trips, or just lounging in the backyard. She originally wanted me to have them for our brewery bus trip that ended up being cancelled. I guess the pint glasses are the...

Success Story-Are you your toughest critic?

I'm most definitely my toughest critic. I know what I'm shooting for in a batch, and if it doesn't come out exactly as planned I try to pick it apart and find out why. It doesn't stop me from enjoying it, but it's certainly a learning process. I try really hard not to develop ugly baby...
