Totally great beer! My local brewery here in Jacksonville Florida makes a rye pale...
Engine 15 - rye pale...just had to change names due to conflict.
Just awesome! Local favorite...for some reason reminds me of that beer... hoppy, but still good malt backbone.
Cheers.
I did one similar as well, Maris otter and centennial... you would if thought it had a more complex grain bill for sure turned out great. Best of luck!
Btw I added more additions, having more late kettle hops. Came in around 65 ibu.

Perhaps...I just wouldn't imagine a platinum strain to be like that I guess...ive done the same brown recipe with 007 and it's awesome...so like you said common denominator is the yeast... I was hoping this would be something like 1469 from wyeast...I can dream

Just to chime in...I've used this yeast before, and I find it very interesting we all had the same problems and similar end products... it's probably not the case of the yeast sucking as much as it's probably very particular...I had weird off flavors in my Brown ale too, clove roast sort of...
Well aware. ...
I starting the fact that I like sours. ..and this sucked. ..whatever style it was trying to be. ..and yes it was from that batch a few years ago. ..horrible
For me about 10 lbs of grain gets me at 1.050...
85% Maris otter or 2 row
10% Crystal 60L
5% Chocolate
60 min Willamette 1oz
15 min Willamette 1oz
Whatever yeast you want...respectively. ..
This is really a robust porter... you could add an ounce or two of roasted barley for that roasted...
Looks pretty good to me...I'd add a little bit of crystal...but you dont have to. I wouldnt worry about hops in oz...its about the alphas. There is an arguement on hop amounts and flavor. I think that youll be fine. A real fruity ipa, think it will be delicious.
