I understand oxidation but I fail to see how the risk is greater by adding sugar during primary compared to adding it to a bottling bucket. To each there own I guess.
I understand the cloudy part but oxidation seems a bit false. How would oxidation increase when you are cutting out transferring to another bucket? Isn't this one of your arguments against secondary fermentation. I don't see oxidation being anymore probable from stirring in the priming sugar...
Welcome to homebrew. We have a pretty sweet brewing group here in Raleigh. We are not a club but we enjoy getting together making beer and making fun at each others expense. PM if you want details.
Welcome to the hobby. There are crap load of us around the triangle. We get together on a regular basis hang out, drink, and brew. Look up grabass (Greater Raleigh Area Brewers and Sud Sipppers) to find us. We are not club just a bunch of dudes who enjoy making fun of each other and making beer.
Dont forget Boylan Bridge. Most of the breweries offer free tours on the weekend and they are allowed to give out samples in North Carolina. Some give more samples than others. Let us know when you get here and I am sure we can round up quit a few.
If you are here over the weekend I would try to go to Carolina Brewing Company in Holly Springs. They have an awesome tour on Saturdays.
If you are only here through the week I would make it to Boylan Bridge Brew Pub. They have decent beer and okay food. There is also Flying Saucer which...
I have my old 30qt stainless pot and propane burner from when I was still doing 5 gallon batches. You are welcome to use them if you need them. I am out of propane though. Do you have a mash tun or are you going to brew in a bag?
I used a Ranco and it is pretty sweet. It requires some mild wiring but there is a pretty good write up on it around here somewhere. I picked it up for around 50 bucks on ebay.
I will be at the Lexington BBQ festival in Central NC if you want to meet me there. You would most likely spend more on gas than you would a tank and cheap regulator.
