How has brewing changed you in other aspects of life?

I go to events more. I'm not very social, but I make way too much beer and events are an obvious way to get rid of a few dozen gallons of beer.

The $49 Kindle Fire.....good for Brew Day??

FYI, some of the Kindle devices (maybe all) are android devices. Some (or all) can be made less annoying by "rooting" the device and installing a better version of android.

    Nomograph for grainbill calculations

I'm building a nomograph for grainbill calculations. The variables included are: OG Batch size Total Extract Needed Efficiency Potential Extract Needed % of grist of each grain addition Potential Extract of each grain addition PPG of each grain addition Weight of grain addition I...

    Fining agents and natural carbonation

I'm not an expert, but I do not think fining will inhibit fermentation in the bottle. After fermentation I cold crash and add gelatin and that works pretty well. I'm going to try adding Irish Moss at the end of the boil and see if that works as well as gelatin. It would be somewhat easier.

    Need a new syphon, suggestions?

I use a 1/2" autosiphon similar to https://www.morebeer.com/products/easysiphon-12.html and it's worked fine for ~250 gallons and counting. I had a problem with air bubbles until I secured the flexible hose to the cane with a few twists of wire.

    Different connectors?! Arrggg....

I had a similar situation, where I needed to hook my ball lock kegs up to a kegerator that was set up for Sanke couplers. I just cut their lines and inserted some adapters. I cut each gas line and each beer line. Then I attached a hose barb to female flare fitting to both ends of each line I...

    Keg post thread confusion

The website is correct on the thread sizes. FIrestone not only uses a different size for gas and liquid, but changed it from model to model, so there are 5 or 6 different firestone posts. I recently reconditioned about 40 corny kegs and 79 of the posts were 19/32". The one odd post was on a...

3x3 or 3x4 corny keg keezer or kegerator?

Does anyone know a fridge or freezer that will hold 5-gallon corny kegs in a formation of 3x3 or 3x4 (hell, 3x5 or 3x6, too)?

What do you do with bad beer?

I had 8 gallons of honey ginger beer go sour and undrinkable. So we killed a goat and marinated the carcass in the beer for a day or so, then pit roasted it for 18 hours. Then we set up the sound system, ate goat, and drank great homebrew. Best goat ever.

Storing BLC or Star San in beverage lines

Ditto, except my hoses are BevFlex 200 PVC (vinyl). No problems, and I imagine if I didn't do this I would grow all kinds of stuff in there. I don't do this with PBW, as it may leave deposits and also requires a rinse before use. With the starsan, (or IodoPhor) I just push the sanitizer out...

    Kegging Question

Use a squirt bottle with foamy liquid and spray it on every connection. Do it both with the hoses attached to the kegs and also with the hoses removed. Look for small bubbles that grow.

    Topping up part drank keg?

That's a good point. I actually haven't been purging my siphon, but I'm sure I'll consider it next transfer. I'm thinking about starting to ferment in corny kegs so I can do sealed keg-to-keg transfers.

    Keg Force Carbing Methods Illustrated

Ah, quite true. After the gas slows, I disconnect the gas and rock the keg a bit more. Although it was temporarily saturated with CO2, it continues taking up the gas rapidly, and the pressure drops proportionally. So by the time I reconnect the CO2 at 20psi, the pressure inside the keg has...
